If you had a choice for eating out, which would you choose?

Do you know what a combo is? A combo is a meal with fries/hash brown and a drink to save money.

BTW, I notice more people order fast food by drive-thru so they eat them at home or on the way to work/school. Regular restaurants don't have a drive-thru. Also a lot of elders sit in McDonald's or others like Del Taco for free coffee refills during early morning.

As for my family, we usually drive thru to order fast food when we don't feel like cooking. My kids' favorite is In-n-Out Burgers. On special occasions like birthdays, we eat in a fine food restaurant like Red Lobster, Olive Garden or Maggiano's.

Maggianos is nice.....since its out of town, we only go there a couple times a year....

family owned restaurants for sure. Went to several of those in New Orleans over the weekend. GREAT food!

I've been to Maggiano's and Pf Chang's and also like the lettuce wrap at Chang's. But we don't get to go there often. I avoid most fast food and try to either bring healthy stuff with me or go to local/smaller/family-owned cafes or healthier places to eat. The exception to the"fast food" is Chipotle but I don't eat the cheese, cream, pinto beans <lard - unless they changed that> or the shells or wraps - always get whatever I order "naked" - usually black beans, extra lettuce, onions and peppers, sometimes chicken or the brown rice - but now they have this tofu there that I like! So I can have a naked burrito bowl with tofu!

I like being adventurous, though in my area there is precious little to choose from. Our usual going out food, when we can afford it, is taco bell, long john silver's, sonic or dairy queen.

I LOVE onion rings and for me, sonic and dairy queen has the best, though the queen's is usually far cheaper.

The wife likes McD's because it's very cheap, but meh...it gives me the McPoops...

There are so many restaurants in the Charleston area it's almost impossible to try them all in a lifetime.

Satay prawns? What are those? Can you explain more?

grilled prawns laid around pizza like pepperonis are on traditional Italian pizzas, then typical pizza-oriented ingredients added, like pineapple, cheese, tomato slices, chopped bacon or ham , chopped red chilli, green chill, etc
heres a picture of a typical satay prawn pizza..

What is Satay Sauce?

other variation of satay sauce sometimes referred as peanut sauce (thai peanut butter sauce)
Peanut sauce - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

but real satay sauce is less like peanut butter and more on its on as a spicy, sour/sour buttery riddled with garlic infused with dashes of lime squeezes and coconut milk/cream, it is considered one of the best aspects of Thai cuisines or rather, a very recognizable taste that scream "Thai". Similarly, Thai Green Curry sauce/pastes are 'obviously Thai, as opposed to Indian Korma sauces.

sometimes people thinks or argues Satay IS peanut butter sauce, but I don't think so, my opinion is Satay sauce is more distinctive with more dimension, thus more ingredients added with more skill, such as use of lime, coconut milk, garlic, spices and so on in a more precise cooking practice, also my opinion some thai restaurants are lazy or cut corners to feed customers Peanut butter as sauces using cheat 'fast' cooking...that's just me

indeed, some might insist is real and genuine even at those over IN Thailand...

so authenticity is blurred and lost over generations of confusion or deceptions to serve false satay somehow became 'normal practice' that ended up to be perceived as 'real satay' ...whatever

i like Satay Prawn Pizzas because it does a good job of preserving the tastiness while the pizza bases and cheese, etc helps the dish to be more edible and dry, so less messy and just plainly that I like Pizza!

that Satay sauce looks good, love lime and coconut milk and garlic...but can't have peanut butter, does anyone know if there is non-peanut version?

Hmmmm can you have almonds? I'm wondering if you made your own you could substitute almond butter maybe??

thanks, ambrosia, I love almond too and eat them often. Yes, I wonder now almond butter and the coconut milk and stuff would taste....it'd be good to try:)

You're welcome :) I'm wonder how it would turn out, I think almond butter is a more subtle flavor than peanut, so hopefully the other favors wouldn't overwhelm it. It'd probably be tasty :)

makes me wanna go and cook some stuff now!
now I'm in the mood for garlic and chilis and basil and coconut milk....
actually quite warming for a cold winter day!

Let's say there are multiple restaurants in your area of living. If you wanted something to eat, where would you go? A restaurant like McDonald's or a privately owned business? For me? I would go for privately owned business, because the food options are bigger, and plus, it's cheaper. For example, a grilled cheese and french fries costs just under $5.50, while a meal at McDonald's costs nearly $7, and that's without the drinks included. With drinks, it's over $8, and at this business, it's under $8, so that's perfect for me.

What would you choose, and why?

I typically do not allow myself to eat out... very rarely. If I do, I tend to blow it out of the water. ( If I'm going to be terrible, I'm going to be REALLY terrible :laugh2: ) I'd go to something like a local mom and pop place, just because the food usually tastes better and is fresher. :P

I am going to the taco stand that looks totally creepy and somemight be like....is thay even clean?

say what?

It depends on why I'm buying dinner not making it. If it's for convenience sake and I want something cheap and fast, because yes they're cheaper, I'll go to McD's or Burger King. But if I'm going out for dinner I'm not going to get a grilled cheese sandwich and french fries, I'm going to get a nice meal.

I do not eat at McD's or Burger King but I agree with about the reason I am going out . If I want a cheap meal I will go to a restaurant that not fancy. If I am going for a dinner I am going to want a lobster with a nice salad and baked potatoes . I do not drink so would get coffee .
