Apple wants to create own TV network to use apps on Apple TV and new Apple TV set (iTV). They are not interesting TWC app in near future but want a la carte cable channels. Cable bills are too high and never watch other channel programs. If they will launch any apps, I will return cable converter and cut channels. Read link.

Apple negotiating directly with content providers for new TV product - report

Neeeeeeeat... yeah cable is stupid expensive... and I have to pay for extra channels I don't want just to get one I do lol!

We don't have cable. If it isn't on over the air broadcast, we just live without it.

I'd die that way Bott... literally... die.... lol!

At first I thought I would too, and for over a year we only had wifi from Virgin Mobile, which was kind of unreliable.

But that changed after my husband got a tablet for his birthday! :P Graphic demonstration of the speed caused him to decide we needed fast internet within a week!

I used to have Time Warner Cable. We realized that we weren't always watching television and were almost always watching DVDs that we own or rented. My wife's grandparents have Dish Network and they let us DVR whatever we want to watch. So, when we're visiting over there during the weekend... we watch whatever's on DVR or television. :)

Apple TV adds apps for Vevo, Weather Channel, Disney and Smithsonian channels.

Apple TV gains apps from Vevo, Weather Channel, Disney and Smithsonian, we go hands-on

I will wait to get more apps this fall or end of year before reduce channels to basic channels and return cable convertor to TWC.
Some apps require a subscription.
For example, Disney Channel and Disney XD live-streaming apps require a pay TV subscription with cable and satellite providers who have distribution agreements in place with Disney.
Well, you can't expect to watch some of those programs for free.

I don't need 200+ cable channels. I will reduce down 70- channels without box. Use to watch local HD network channels and digital channels (Not HDTV). I can watch some cable channels online via AirPlay from iPad or Mac.

wee are pondering the same thing. We even considered switching tv to sat like dish or direct tv and keep the time warner internet. Problem is without the packaged deal the prices for having sat tv and cable internet is costing more then packaged deal. Darn it !!!!

I've gone from Dish Network Cable for $80 a month down to Netflix for $8 a month. I don't watch tv much so that works just fine.

I have to have cable or I will not get anything on TV. The rabbit ears does not help at all.

We got a fancy digital antenna from Amazon that plugs into the wall and the tv.

We can get all the over the air stations that way. Rabbit ears or a non powerful antenna won't work here either.

The antenna was very expensive, but it saves a lot of money from not paying for cable tv.

Not to sound pretentious, but I just don't watch TV, I'm too busy trying to get by and there isn't anything I want to watch. I wish my parents would kill the satellite bill, so they would stop hitting me up for money.

If I didn't reside in the dark hills of Appalachia, I would suggest this for my parents. I imagine the reception would be poor to mediocre though

I've been reading a lot about 'Pulling the plug' online lately. There's a few threads on bluyray.com which I contributed to regarding this.

I have an Amazon Prime account so I use that for Amazon Instant Video. It fits my needs but honestly, it's a stupid expensive if youre planning on keeping up-to-date with current shows seeing as how they charge you $1.99-2.99 per episode! I watch solely Prime content meaning everything I view is free of charge but there's quite a few shows/movies I would enjoy watching that is not Prime-eligible but I absolutely refuse to pay $3 for a 60 minute episode.

Once my Prime subscription expires, I'll likely look into purchasing Hulu and Netflix or at least giving both VOD services a trail run.
