I am a curious person, just like I am taking a risk that i could be the one of those curiosity killed the cat. HA

In case if you dont know me, I grew up in a Deaf world and involved with Deaf community. Indeed, I grew up in a hearing world because of my hearing family. Now I have hearing kids, and work for hearing world.

anyway, I try so hard to understand some of you, who have not learn ASL or struggle to learn ASL or not interested in learning ASL. I do notice that some of you who often talk about finding it frustrating to communicate with hearing people, such as hearing friends, hearing family, hearing co workers, hearing teachers and go on due to having a difficulty time to grasp what they (hearing) are talking about. Or feeling so lonely, that no one understands you, or less friends or withdrawn and less social life. Yet, some of you who thinks Deaf community or Deaf culture that you do not agree with. WHILE Like me, I do not feel any lonely at all. I accepted who I am, and comfortable to use ASL to communicate. I often find a way to communicate with hearing people. I do have friends, of course I am not perfect. I assume I may not be a perfect friend to some of them. Who knows.

I often wonder if whose bitter or frustrating people adjust their attitude of opinioning better in a positive way toward to the Deaf world and will they no longer feel lonely?

:fruit:

That is a very generalization statement. There are many reasons why a person will feel the way they do and it could have nothing to do with being able to communicate to deaf or hearing person. I have trouble trusting people because the people I should had been able to trust the most broken that trust at as very young age. If you can't trust your parents and family it's very hard to trust anyone . No two people reaction to the same situation the same and people are not objects that can be fit into round peg holes, they could another shape.

I understand where you are coming from, and you are right. I knew few Deaf people (ASL users) and they dont trust anyone or so based on what kids their upbringing.

I know 56 yrs old who happens to be my dear friend. She has tramatic experiences. She has only one close friend who is me, and she does have couple of hearing friends but they were not honest with her. as of right now she is taking care of her elder mom. I understand.

Umm, you asked a complicated question Frisky. Each one may be expetiencing unique things in life along with hearing issues, reacting to things based on their personality. Not everyone has the support or have chosen a family life, others grew up in a hostile world where trust does not come so easy and some like me use humor to spice things up I guess. I suppose AD is an outlet to express a lot of the frustration you read but luckily, we can find the support in one fashion or another from this site. You pretty much summed up what most are all about on AD, good point though.

I think the bigger question is: Why after reaching out to the Deaf World those people still feel lonely?

I doubt there are any people, lonely or otherwise, on this forum(other than the newbies) who have not reached out to the Deaf World either by ASL classes, meetups, walk events, dated Deaf or only through this forum itself.

I try to use my sense of humor to lighting up things when I am not able to say a word correctly or I try to get the other person to say it for me , it does help to break the ice a little bit. Deaf and hoh people are not the ones that feel they're not being listen to , but being hoh helped me to understand what some of my clients meant about their families or the government not listening to them. I had a few clients that vets that fought in a few wars..
I would not wish my life experiences on a dog but it did help me to become very protected of my clients as health aide and protected of my own family and pets. The hardest part of not being able to work as a health aide anymore , I was not able to protect elderlies that where being abused by their families .

I do not have a complete grasp of what you are saying because, if I remember correctly, you don't even know the first thing about ASL or sign language, right?

Like pot calling the kettle black, heh?

Someone complains about not fitting in the hearing world and feeling lonely but is negative about ASL and the Deaf community.

Yep, I had wondered about that.

I don't think ASL is the issue. I've never heard anyone being negative about the language itself. I think people feel it is a good solution for deaf to deaf communication, but I don't think they see it as a good hearing to deaf solution.

That's good that you haven't heard anything negative about the language itself.

I do not know ASL but I still been similar situations and I did take ASL when I lived in California and knew how to sign but I moved back East and had no one to use it with. :nana:

some of you say that no one to use it with is what my question .. I moved to a small town here, freaking small to me. I met couple then I found more friends within a few years becasue i asked interpreters about it.

That is great you find new friends in a small town , I was too busy raising my child on my own to take time to find people that knew ASL when I moved back East and . The woman who dog bite my dog know ASL and she was signing her name to me . I still remember some of ASL alphabet and hand signs. I only really met one guy that hoh and he is about my age and he does not know ASL . ASL was not taught to hoh or deaf kids in my schools growing up.
