I've read that digital odometer would show E (as in error) if it was tampered.

Right. To avoid from fake mileage info.

I have successfully altered the Digital odometer on my Jeep! I found out how by accident.

It really does not matter anymore due to the age of my jeep.

At least odometer analogy is worse than Odometer analogy for stable.

I don't know that. I thought it was just monitor by camera for traffic analysis. Cool!

there are several methods for traffic analysis.

1. EZ Pass Transponder
2. Magnetic thing in the street
3. Cameras as you said
4. Cable Line across the street where you drive over it (activated by pressure)
5. ?

We drive from Charleston, SC, to southeastern Connecticut without paying any tolls except for one bridge.

yup. just getting into NYC from any states - yep all tolls.

NYS law ignores the odometer reading once vehicle hits 10 years old. This is why it is moot point and I don't care. We are gonna keep our jeep til we bury it, no reason to sell it.

We totally avoid the city.

It takes a little longer to cut thru upstate NY but it's a lot more relaxing.

Nope, it is done by magnetic field. Several people thought it was weight sensitive. It wasn't, and I thought something to do with radio frequency, but found out it was magnetic. How do weight works if road is in frozen state? That is why magnetic is used.

Unless selling a vehicle, it's more beneficial to have high mileage on a vehicle in SC. The personal property tax on vehicles goes down according to age and mileage of the vehicle.

I think he means the temporary lines that are laid out to measure traffic volume? :dunno:

Yes, I heard about NYC has a lot of reckless drivers.

ZzzZzzz....

Failure to disclose is illegal, sometimes odometer changes would occured and you must, by law declare that when your selling the vehicle.

My case, won't matter, cause it is 15 years old already, in NYS eye of law, beyond 10 years, its considered automatically inaccurate.

Secondly, once I declare when selling. I'm off the hook.

Its not a big deal, my point of this is that history already tells us that in attempt to prevent anyone from tampering have proven to worsen the situation. If they aren't broken, don't fix it. We all expect that crimes would happen from time to time, attack the criminals directly not the law abiding citizens. So, since the attempt to thwart those who roll back on odometer by converting to digital proved to be failure, so the chance of license plate converting to digital to prevent drivers from abusing the privilege and criminals will likely to be failed anyway.

Going to federal prison is better than going to state and if criminals didn't alter the odometer and sold to other state then it falls under State because state has their own law too. State prisons is worse except higher security prisons.

It is federal crime to tampering the odometer and it is felony.

If caught so you can send to federal prison.

huh? that's not what I was referring to. what do you think what was I talking about for #2?

this is what I was referring to -

it's usually connected to big orange box at certain street. it's for government/company to analyze the traffic flow. the cable stays there for probably couple days.

It isn't NYS but federal law.

Good luck.

Its in NYS law book AND Federal law book. Not just NYS, every state has that same law in the book. The charge falls either Federal or State is based on location of crime scene, if never crossed state line, then state prosecute the suspect, on other hand if a person altered odometer in a state and transport to another state and didn't declare that odometer has been altered then Federal prosecute the suspect.

Good luck.

Oh got it sorry my bad. :giggle:

Perhaps I drink little too much of moonshine. Man! 190 proof. Missed the days in college. LOL
