Please share your ntouch knowledge and experience

I have a deaf friend who has an iPhone but no video phone or VRS yet. She's considering getting ntouch for the iPhone as the sole VRS access. What things should she know about the process?

She's thinking about getting an AT&T account (data plan) for the iPhone, and then Sorenson for ntouch.

Is this doable?
 
I believe needs 4G network. So far Sprint was the only network provide unlimited Data plan. If she uses AT&T with capped plan, then she can use VRS sparingly not regularly. However if their smartphone can access to WiFi, that is one way to avoid getting hit by cap.

Important check the wireless coverage map before making the decision.

I do use Ntouch on my Verizon (I know, and heard) and I haven't hit my limit yet. Last time was last week, thank god I have one and was in middle of nowhere and need to make emergency call. Thanks Verizon coverage.

Don't forget WiFi. If your phone is connected to WiFi, you can use that to use VP.

Check her coverage to make sure LTE or "4G" is available. VRS works better with LTE or "4G" Also use speedtest app to check speed and should be over 1 mbps for download/upload.

She should know how to check her data usage to avoid from overage charges.

Most wifi public are slower than LTE from my experience thru almost thousand of hotels. We travel a lot.

AT&T and Verizon are most LTE network. AT&T limited plan is 3 GB at $50/mo and Verizon limited plan is 2 GB at $55/mo. Video callings is average 2GB at least. Not enough GB in using video callings on Verizon and charge data overage is $10 per 1 GB of data. Sprint has unlimited data plan but not enough LTE network in few metro cities.
 
Very true! However, there are times that I have no issues. If the place is crowd and too many people using WiFi, it will slow down for everybody.

Not just crowd. It's calls bandwidth throttling to make it balance for everyone. Like I tested speedtest.net like 6am, 12pm, 5pm, 1am. They are exactly same 0.25 mbps. That's how I knew it.
 
Of course, not every place got network Geek dealing like that, some does, some don't. Usually when there is crowd, pretty much guarantee that everyone will notice drop in speed.

Seriously, I was at one place, where they have lousy WiFi. I talked with the owner, he knows NOTHING and won't touch the WiFi router cause nothing i wrong with it and leave as is.

Yes, I was looking at some of the plans online. They're all expensive. That might be a problem.

My understanding is that the wi-fi would be free but access would be limited by location.

Suppose a person lives in a house that has wi-fi access. Would ntouch work well there?

Yes, It should works as her ISP is over 1 mbps for download/upload then no problem.

iPad mini w/ WiFi and Cellular's plan is low price. AT&T data plan is 250 MB at $15/mo and 3 GB at 30/mo. My cousin had it and it can work with nTouch. But new iPod don't have cellular.
 
The only nagging problem with ntouch on mobile phone is that it keep disconnecting when you move one place to another place due to different IP. When you open it and you will see "Please check Network setting - E1", it's because I move from Wifi at work to LTE on the road, and sometime I have to shut it down and restart ntouch in order to get it signed in. ntouch doesn't automatically refresh to accept new IPs.

Yes, I m too. Some bugs. I did to download updated app on my iPhone sometimes but nothing to work. Should shut it down to restart it. P3 and Z4 are no problem.

I would think someone who uses it mostly from home should be OK with the wifi, right?

Sounds like so annoying. Good thing I have no problem with my Z5 for between LTE and WIFI. You should try Z5.
