Is it time for Nintendo to leave the console market?

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate isn't made for kids.

All game studios do same on remakes, sequels, and re-releases too. SquareEnix and their Final Fantasy and Heart Kingdoms games. Same with Capcom. EA did with sports games and other series. They are milking the poor cows and ignored other farm animals.

Yes, I am tired of see more Mario games. I just want others, not Marios.

EDIT: This thread is becoming pointless although Wii U is its first year just what happened with PS3. It will get better as years goes on.

Sega Dreamcast was 2 years old before Sega discontinued in North America market, however it did last longer in Japan.

Nintendo is very well in Japan but not good in North America.

Ugh... the Dreamcast was killed by idiots believing the PS2 hype (not even the actual system, just the pre-launch hype). What a disappoint when it finally came out, almost all the launch titles were complete garbage. That fireworks game?

Anyway, on topic: Nintendo are reaping what they've sown.

They decided it was better to focus on simplistic motion-controlled party games and other crap over the expansive, difficulty, detailed platform and adventure games they're best known for.

The problem: that casual crap is easy to get into but shallow as hell. I remember my parents being giddy with excitement at getting to try my cousin's Wii and Wii Sports. They got bored after 20 minutes, but (this was Christmastime) we spent hours every night playing massively multiplayer 1vs100 on Xbox Live.

The Wii-U doesn't do enough new stuff to distinguish it, doesn't have any super amazing killer games that everyone's talking about, and... seems to have come out too early.

The 3DS is awesome, however.

If there is no Nintendo console market, then it would be no more next-generate kids to play video game.

Not true. I see too many young kids play games on Android tablet or iPod touch or iPad, etc.

Smart parents picked Android tablet or iOS tablet over Nintendo console or other Sony console. Why? Apps are so cheap.

Most Nintendo games are around $20-$60 per game. Android tablet or iOS tablet are around $0-$5.

Ofc, Installed tablet in the rubber case and SET it tablet to parental control first then give it to kids.

What made you think that?

Dreamcast withdrawing due hacker.

BTW I have Crazy Taxi on my iPhone now.

Yes, Nintendo is more scared of Apple than Sony.

Not always. You can pick up used Wii games for $5-10 or even $15 and kids enjoy them fine. Gotta be a bargain hunter. :) IT's not all about being smart, it's all about saving money. Tablets are more expensive than an used Wii system which only costs $70.

$70 Tablet? Haha, probably a crap one with slow processor. I wouldn't buy one.

Also, downloading games electronically over the internet has no resale value. You cannot make money reselling games, if you don't want the games anymore. That's the sad part.

Most physical games lost the value over years - Madden 07 was $60 in 2006 but docked to 99¢ today but if you sell to GameStop so they will give 5¢.

The digitalization of high valued games will lose the value because of digital influence.

That's why you don't sell to Gamestop. Sell it yourself on Facebook sale group or Craigslist or someplace else. I've seen people selling lot of things all the time on Facebook sale groups in different areas, even video games. They sell pretty good.

Digital games have no value if you resell them because they are not in physical matter.

In some cases, digital games have value - you can trade the digital games for credit on different games - Green Man Gaming has practice for years and some German games do that too.

Steam is looking for new practice that allow gamers to sell or trade the digital games.

The games don't last very long time after you beat and easily to get bored because of little replay value.

That's the point, that's why I don't do tablets or smartphones for kids. I've noticed our kids get bored with tablet games very quickly. They continue playing for a while with same game on Wii.

While Nintendo does a great job of avoiding the DLC crap, they did seem to get a bit carried away with the unusual interactive concept thing.

From what I'm seeing, it seems that Nintendo simply re-used previous ideas into an "advanced" format.

For instance, the interactive handheld display device? That's something they've been doing since the Gamecube. They were already incorporating the use of the Gameboy Advance as a mini-screen for extra features for some games like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Luigi's Mansion. They did it again for other games for the Wii with the use of the Nintendo DS.

I guess they're trying to focus on the family market where the whole family plays together. Since the Wii U looks and feels like the original Wii, that's probably why not many people get it.

I already have a Nintendo Wii and there isn't enough that the Wii U offers that encourages me enough to get Wii U.

Yes because tablet games are much shorter than Wii games.

Tablet games (300 MB) may last for 1-3 hours, compared to 6-10 hours for Wii games (7 GB).

Yup, a few games for smartphone/tablets are good and most of them are crap. For example, Real Racing 3 is 1.1 GB of space (yikes!) and it's a great game, kinda feels like a console game on a smartphone in a way.

Why should I needs resale it for $0-$5? It's kind pointless to me.

Kids are not dumb like you think of. They will notice it when the gameplay is slowing down overall. They complained to me about how slow the game is before.
