If you remember them, they were very poorly produced. Not many of them were sold. Now they're collector cars. Go figure!!!

I took those pictures while I was on the road. Enjoy them!!!

My parents were barely born at the time, but the name still has resonance today. I think it's a nice looking car.
 
I look at picture and I see that this is a 2 door model. I think that coupes were more rare than 4 doors.

Yeah, Edsels are cool name. Most older folks and those in classic car circle are pretty familiar with them. I wish I would have one of those :)
 
That thing is in damned good condition!! A 2-door Ranger....yeah, it would be a good collector.

they weren't poorly made, but rather priced too high, which resulted in poor sales..

I think it was more of poorly designed, not poorly produced. The difference is that the design with that oddly shaped grill that looked like something for a horse. Ford Motor Co. wanted to start a new division called Edisel and it was an introduction vehicle to test the waters. The public did not like them and the timing, people loved the 57's Chevys and Plymouths. Corvette was just introduced in 1955, among other things.

So, you have it. Timing, poorly designed, over produced I believe, and poor sales contribute to it's demise. Collectors today prefer the Chevy Bel Aires and the Plymouths as evidence seen at car meets and classic car shows especially around here when I have my booth at those car meets.
 
Hey Derek: Saw this on the side of the road for sale, just had to stop by and check it out. Talk about a trip down memory lane....

I thought they were cool back in the '70's.....I liked the last year the best ('79).


This one has some hacked parts and lots of bodywork done. Interior is crappy.



How much does this guy want?.....$3500......he is dreaming.

They go for a lot in rust belt states!! $3500 ?!! Wow!! I guess he will be sitting on it for some time.

Looks like Ford Pinto to me.

If this is really Ford Pinto, Ford learn hard lesson with this model. As soon as they start production of this vehicle, they actually found serious problem. The serious problem is that the rear bumper is just right behind the gas tank. At the same time, Ford is trying to break the record of design, develop this car within 12 months time frame, normally 24-48 months. The reason is to try to beat competitor called Honda Civic when it comes to fuel efficient.

same with ford mustangs/pintos/mavericks... all had fuel tanks right behind the rear bumper, alot of people burned to death, now mustangs have a shield to buy for behind the seats so they are not opened to the trunk area.... the trunk floor was actually the top of the fuel tanks...you know how many dumb kids screwed their amps down in there....lol
 
What about the 1948 Tucker Sedan? Only 50 were made. Some of those cars sell for millions of dollars. :shock:

Yup, remember the less company makes, the more valuable it becomes in the event it gets at collector's age.

Hmm, you gave me a new movie that I would have to watch. I'm always into car movies. I have heard of Tucker. I imagine that it was too much to make and lacked in sales.

its that famous 3 headlights car...sedan kinda like the old 40s chevys

what a stylish car damn get a rusty one, have it painted yellow decal it like a NYC taxi and hot rod it up! that would be FUN
 
I've only seen a couple of Edsels. Remember my dad saying something about the bad reviews and people saying it looked an Oldsmobile sucking a lemon. I thought it was cool that they had the push button transmission on the steering wheel hub and the speedometer spun around instead of having a needle on a dial.

There's a shop on the way to work with a Gremlin. He keeps it looking good. At least as much as a Gremlin can.

wow thats different. indeed back in 50's alot of experiments took place, style and function wise, must has been an exciting time back then, where's Dr Who? lets got for a trip back...
