Yea, the best colors to hide dirt? What ever color dirt you have in your area.

At one point I said I was going to get a green car the next time because the guy that lived behind our company parking lot would mow when it was damp and we would get grass clippings thrown on our cars. I did not follow through on that though as I got too good a deal on a blue one.

Heh, heh. That reminds me of when we had to leave our car out on the driveway during Hurricane Hugo. It didn't get damaged but the next morning it was decoupaged in green leaves and pieces of leaves. It was almost completely covered, even into the door jambs! It was the weirdest looking thing. :giggle:

Well sad news is, Im not gonna take the infinity.

Story is, the stepdaughter found it and mom went with her to buy it, well the guy also had a grand am and she got that instead. Mom wanted another car for work so not to drive the van all the time, well she decided after getting it that she didn't want it and offered it up to me. I spent hours cleaning inside and out. Come to find out the grand am had some major issues to pass inspections, expensive issues !
So I wanted to get the infinity inspected before I committed to it, well... MOM wont do that, she said its either yes or no! I said I don't have a fortune to spend on repairs and she claims she is getting screwed because she didn't get it inspected before she bought it... I said that's her tough luck, everyone has a rights to have it inspected before buying and she didn't want to take me with her to look it over...oh well.
So it escalated into an argument and I told her she can keep the damn car, return it or whatever she wants to do... Im out. So she screwed herself on this one.

I still don't get what she is doing for a vehicle for herself has to do with you getting the Infinity?

I'm not getting this either. SO was the Infiniti sold by the dealer? EIther way, this is confusing!!

Neat engine compartment. I've been seen the cleanest engine/tranny (FWD) but I lifted the vehicle for oil service, saw real bad dirty/oil leaks under the engine/tranny. wtf why? Sell to buyer.

Pretty self explainitory to me...

Pretty self explainitory to me...
Anyways, the next day after she got it, the battery was dead, guy said he just put a new altenator in it, so its either a bad rectifier, bad battery or an electrical issue.... things I don't want to deal with since electrical issues get bigger. If a bad battery no big deal. Im going to have the battery checked out, and if its just a bad battery then it will be replaced.

Still feel like this is kinda going in circles.

Are you saying it was your stepdaughter that found the Infinity? But, I thought you already had the Infinity and had started work on it? So I still don't understand how what your soon to be ex-wife wants to do entered in to you getting the Infinity.

You can check with digital multimeter. Engine running should be around 13.5 volt, if 12 volt or less then replace the new alternator, if around 13.5 volt for over 30 minutes and battery still died then replace the new battery.

I've gotten a bad altinator rebuild before. The highlanders advice should tell you where the problem is but if the volage drops below 12v when you shut it off you could run the test again but unhook the battery imediatly and see if it goes down then. That should rule out a drain.

OMG you all are kidding right?

step daughter was looking for a car ( mom paying for it )
step daughter finds infinity
mom takes daughter to look/buy infinity
daughter don't like infinity
daughter see grand am
guy is selling grand am too
daughter likes grand am
mom buys grand am for daughter

NOW

Mom likes infinity so
Mom buys infinity too
(secretely for me but wants me to pay her back)
(I myself don't like the infinity but hey, its a car right)

Take grand am to have inspected
FAILED
rack and pinion bad
$800 repair
passed

Mom breaks news to me on infinity
before I agree I want it inspected
she said no, either yes/no if I want it
since I don't have an arm/leg/left nut for repairs I passed and she's mad she is stuck with it. Oh well, boo hoo !

Now...UPDATE
I took battery out and put on charger, it doesn't seem to be taking a charge. Guy said he put new altenator in it but it looks as old as the car itself...sooo questionable.
Now if it turns out to be a bad battery , which Im going to have tested soon, then may not be a big issue, but I still want an inspection to know if anything else is wrong, I do know the brakes are severely worn down so they need replaced, no biggie as I know how... but I don't want no big repair bills right off the back to even drive it.

Did that break it down enough for y'all ?

I don't have a battery load tester, but do have a voltmeter, only a load tester will say for sure if a battery is bad... and auto part stores do the test for free.

Thank you for the explanation. Your first post was misleading. You made it sound like you already bought the car for yourself, lock, stock, and barrel, done deal. You described the work you wanted to do on it. Every thing was about your new car. Fine.

Then, all of sudden, you mention all this family drama about the car. It was very out of sequence, back and forth.

That's why it was confusing.

Anyway, back to the car.

You can use voltmeter and find it out which bad alternator or battery. No load tester necessary. If the alternator is 100% good then what's cause problem? Nothing other but bad battery that I know so far.

I still use battery load tester if truck have two batteries or four batteries.

Well, You keeps said "it" all times and confused me which van or Grand am or Infiniti (Not infinity) you talked about.

Well if she doesn't change her attitude it will be an Indefinately, because that's how long she will have it if I don't buy it...lol
And yes, it did sound like I already bought it with plans "plans" that I have thought for it...but no, it was just the futuristic outlook of owning it if I do.
