Apache ASL Trails update

That is like having the mainstream schools all over again. HUD is just like Alexander Graham Bell Foundation who want the Senior center or nursing home to have hearing people living in it. HUD want 75% hearing more than the Deaf people. They don't want them to sign. So sadly, many Deaf people had to leave and let the hearing people in but when the numbers went up for the hearing only left one Deaf person alone with no one to communicate with in ASL. The HUD will be happy if the hearing people is there and yeah, that the deaf will suffer with frustration. HUD does not understand about hearing loss and they don't care. Shame on HUD, too. **shaking my head** :(

I think the AGBell Foundation might have contact HUD and make them do drastic change for the Deaf so that they have to do what HUD said. It is not fair just because of that AGBell. GRRRRR Geeze.

I don't think AGB has anything to do with it. The problem is that the video didn't explain why HUD wanted more hearing residents in that building (75% hearing, 25% deaf). Currently, NAD is helping fight for it. NAD Board Meeting Phoenix, AZ at Apache ASL Trails on Vimeo

That is true what you said but still I feel that AGBell Foundation is behind it making the HUD do this to the Apache ASL Trails, no matter what you think.

Deaf Seniors or Elders fight together to keep Apache ASL Trails open for them only. Not hearing, unless if you can find CODAs who can sign 100%. :hmm:

stop pursued convinced or fight to group.. my theory
ASL want to friendly to happy group is things. no control!

What's more, there are plenty of the public housings for hearing low-income people everywhere. AAT is one of the few housings for the Deaf, Deaf/Blind and HOH. I don't understand why HUD is telling AAT to welcome hearies to the housing which was specifically designed for people with those special needs.

Thank you for putting up the petition. I signed it already. I hope they can remain to stay at the Apache ASL Trails. HUD is not being fair at all. That was wrong of them to do that to the Deaf Seniors who need the comfort of communicating in ASL. :(

Oh wow, HUD is horrible!!!

The executives at HUD need getting fired too.

This is a really sad, unfair situation. :(

I'm guessing that someone who is not deaf or HOH complained that they were denied an opportunity to move in so they threatened to sue. Therefore, AZ felt that they had to do something about it. Some people are jerks. Sad to say.

That's possible that someone filed a complaint to HUD. However, HUD wants to cut down the number of deaf/HOH low-income people to 18 while it originally paid for this housing especially designed for the deaf and HOH. It doesn't make sense.

I don't get it either. It makes deaf people wonder if they want to retire to AZ. I wonder if any progress has been made on that.
