I'm having some problems with my new Pit Bull Terrier - I rang the vet for some advice.
I explained he was brown, stupid, aggressive and liable to attack anyone for no good reason.
The vet replied, "Muzzle 'im?"
"No," I said, "I think he's an atheist."

The vet said "Muzzle 'im?"

"'im" is a shortened way of saying "him"- so the vet said "Muzzle him". When you say "Muzzle 'im" it sounds like "Muslim" (if you say it fast and run it together a bit) so it sounded like the vet was asking if the dog was "Muslim" ("Muslim?"). So, the person responded, "no, I think he's an atheist [someone who does not believe there is a god]". They probably could have said any other religion (like, "no, I think he's Buddhist" or whatever) and it would still have the same punch line. Does that help any?

deafdrummer- This is also the part that makes it funny. If you look at how they described their dog (brown, stupid, aggressive, etc.) and think of the image that is portrayed of Muslims (Middle-Eastern, so their skin is brown, stupid, aggressive, and attack people for no good reason) I actually think that this is supposed to be the "funny" part. Really, this joke has two ways of finding it funny. It actually took me a second look to catch this part (the description of the dog fitting that of a stereotypical Muslim).

Yeah, totally went right over my head because I thought that was how the vet was talking, like a horse or livestock vet down here in Texas. The rural girl in me totally missed it.

Is there anything that a vet would have said regarding the pet that would allude to Christian insurgents? Plenty of them out there as well...

Edit: Jadeskye, that is why my mind is like a superfortress that won't let me assimilate into anything so far. There's PLENTY of people out there who ask me if I'm a believer (a believer in what, I ask), knock on my door, or just sit down right in front of me at a restaurant, asking if everything in my life is okay and if I have God in my life (why are you asking me if I have myself in my life?). Have I ever had a Muslim do that to me here in the US? A Buddhist? Ahh, how about various Native American believers? Uhh, nooo... It's ALWAYS the Christians who try to come to me with the intent to convert, especially Jehovah's Witnesses.

Well it may be more a function of where you live than a difference between Christians and other followers. Both Christianity and Islam are proselytizing faiths, they actively seek converts. I suspect that in Michigan you'd be seeing the Muslim equivalent to Witnesses. Judaism, while permitting conversion, is a faith that leaves gentiles alone. As for non-Abrahamic faiths, I remember the Hare Krishnas were super active and present at my alma mater.
