I can't believe they are going way over the cliff! Those who are afraid of guns needs to take huge chill pills!

Taxpayer is paying for this stupidity, let alone this kid is only 6 years old! They could have done better with approach to this case than to press panic button.

Maryland First Grader Suspended for Pointing Finger in Shape of Gun - ABC News

Let alone, I just can't figure out what their deal was. When I grew up I have always done that and it has not turned me into murderer nor even criminals as of yet. I remember playing with other classmate, pow pow whatever and nothing happens.

I got my hand slapped by teacher for made gun gesture and was playing with my classmate in the class, so it was 19 years ago.

My time, I had toy guns and they look very very realistic! I even once had water UZI and it looks so damn real. Anyone could be confused it with real guns, back then we don't have issues with mass shooting, whatever. Now with rules and policy, result? We are having more serious problems already.

Wow! She slapped your hand! That was so wrong.

I agreed! See? This is causing more problems for everyone. I don't see justifiable for teacher slapping foxrac's face.

Hey, I am sure you remember back in 60's and 70's where toy guns looks so real, right?

What I believe is the best approach on these kinds of incident is to stay calm, encourage kids seek counselor and have counselor evaluate to see if it is just playing or if kids having issues at home or with other kids and work from there rather than punish them. I believe most of the time, it is really harmless.

When I was little, I had twin 6-shooters in holsters, an air rifle, and a secret Bat Masterson derringer in a belt buckle (I was really into the Western shows then). They were all cap guns. No toy guns had the red tips in those days.

I also had a plastic Zorro sword, a wooden pirate sword, and a real pen knife.

We also improvised weapons with whatever materials we found, such as from Erector sets and Lincoln Logs.

I don't think we brought any of our toys to school. We traveled light in those days. :giggle:

It was his hand, not his face, but it was still wrong.

I was in school in the 50's and 60's. Yes, some of them looked real.

Oh my! I remember these, even erector set... oh no not the ahem no no it is a metal stuff where you could build crane or whatever. :giggle: These good o'le days, man! I missed them.

What I see problem in punishing kids is that it suppress them even farther especially with authorities. What if these kids are sociopath? The only way is NOT to punish them but encourage them seek mental health professionals. Encourage them could lead to finding of their mental problem and can prevent future mass shooting, and unnecessarily cold-blooded murders.

yes I have a license for that...

I had water gun as a kid and so did my siblings. I also had a toy gun or 2. About now.....

Yup, it was very wrong and it was illegal for teacher to hit the child under state law, but I didn't know how to report to my parent due to delayed communication and my parent started wonder about how I got hurt from.

My first grade teacher was one of most cruelest teacher ever that I have experience and she retired about 10 years ago.

That was happened in same year when federal assault weapon ban passed. That's 1994.

Yup, same in 90's, I used to own revolver toy that looks realistic and I got from christmas.

Yup, that's correct, it was my hand.

If they did to my face will raise the suspicious from school admin and my parent.

Yeah, but no way they should ban this finger gun. This finger gun is obviously a revolver. *Note the three bent fingers and lack of an ejection port as seen in your previous finger gun post.

The Monday after the Connecticut school shooting, one of my son`s classmates (1st grade) made a hand shape of a gun and pointed it to her temple and said, "pow!" To my son. My son came home from school upset because he reported it and they both got sent to the principal `s office. We got it all cleared up...I told my son he did the right thing by reporting it and no, I wasn't upset because the kids were just playing around. The girl's parents were notified too. We talked with both of them and told them that it wasn't appropriate to talk about guns at school. I guess the girl saw all the news coverage about the school shooting all weekend and she just was telling the other kids about guns on TV. Was innocent but I talked with my son again and again about what happened and that it was sad. We didn't allow him to watch any of the news coverage on TV. Didn't want him to get upset and scared but I guess some of the other kids did. Ugh!
