I am pregnant and high risk. I have lots of doctors appointments to schedule and I am so sick of having to ask people to make them for me. I have never used tty and I don't really know what else is out there. Can you recommend any products I can use so I can make the appointments myself. ( please explain how each one works).

I have the android stratosphere ( no house phone)

Thanks in advance.

Do you have AIM messenger account? You could use the relay service through instant messenger to call and make an appointment. You could use it on your computer or your smartphone (I'm sure there's Andriod app for AIM messneger).

More information - Sprint Relay

Can you speak? Your might want Wireless CapTel by Sprint. It is an app by Sprint that can be used on ANY Android phone which has the 2.2 version of that operating system or higher and is running on a carrier (Verizon, Sprint, etc.) that gives you at least 3G service.

They also have a version that uses your computer to get the captions of what the other party is saying and any phone for you to speak into for your side of the conversation.

I use it myself and do make use of a neckloop to hear in combination with my hearing aid for the purpose of knowing when the person I have called has quit speaking after answering the phone. That is so that I can say something right away and they don't hang up while I am finishing reading what they said when they answered. I just get enough sound to know they are no longer talking but do not understand what they are saying. In order to carry on a conversation in person I combine sound and lip reading.

The following link will answer many of the questions I am sure will be probably have but don't hesitate to come back here with any others.

I agree with the others, a relay service is really cool to use. I just made two doctors appoints for this week, in fact. I use instant messenger and Sorenson SIPRelay.

Trust me. This is the way to go.. You'll be fine.

Another vote for IM or IP relay! I have it on my computer and my phone and it works great (and is free)

If you're in the USA there are tons of options, if you're in Canada it's a little more complicated in some areas, but not a big deal anymore :)

Actually I'm not deaf or HOH. I have a vocal disorder and can not speak.

I will try the AIM instant messanger thought. I didn't even know you could use that. Thanks for the advice.

Go to the Sorenson site Mobile | SIPRelay®

Also, install AIM app on your android phone. You then call sorenson from AIM.

Good luck

Have you tried getting a different form of contact such as email? Ask them if the doctor (or obgyn) has an email account that is frequently checked by the doctor or secretary. If so, then give them your email address so they know who you are and to expect email from you.

There's also relay services that can be used through AIM.

We have several dr's for our daughter and they either have online appointment systems or allow me to email them to set appointments (through their nurses actually). It's VERY handy. Ask next time you are in the dr's office if you can email someone to set appointments vs calling--or set up several in a row when you are in the office.
