(CBS/AP) DALLAS - Elizabeth Escalona, a Dallas mother, has been sentenced to 99 years in prison for beating her two-year-old daughter and gluing the child's hands to a wall.

Escalona faced from probation to life in prison, with prosecutors seeking 45 years behind bars. A state district judge decided her sentence Friday.

Police say Escalona attacked two-year-old Jocelyn Cedillo because of potty training problems. The 23-year-old pleaded guilty in July to felony injury to a child.

Police records show Escalona's other children told authorities she kicked Jocelyn in the stomach and hit her with a jug in September 2011. They said Escalona glued Jocelyn's hands to the wall with a type of strong adhesive known as super glue.

Jocelyn suffered bleeding in her brain, multiple bruises and was in a coma for a couple of days.

She get serious punishment!! Oh my lord

oh it is terrible s on serious!! pretty big seriously!!! oh my god!

Wow, that's very very serious crime - felony.

This woman is really SICKO, not sure if she has hearing loss. Noticed something on her right ear.

Not a week goes by in Texas where there is not a report of serious child abuse. I can recall during the year several cases of starving a kid, shaking to death a kid, even a JUDGE whipping his daughter on video (Mom did not try to stop it!) and other terrible things done to kids.
Most of the parents have the usual excuses (i.e. the economy, single mother situation, etc.) but (IMO) the real reason is that these "parents" should never have become "parents" before they were prepared in ALL abilities to raise a child.

My point is: If you can't feed them, don't breed them.

Before I forget, in Texas for the year of 2011 there were 23 women killed by domestic violence.
That is almost 2 per month.

My point is: Know the person FULLY before having a serious relationship with that person.

IMO, 99 years sentence is too excessive. The prosecutor requested for 35 years which would be reasonable but the judge ...

Not meaning to be rude but until you see pictures of the child you would not believe what this woman did. Most people see the term: "glue hands together" and think that is all that happen.
However, the child suffered much more serious injuries (i.e. in a coma). I would accept 50 years.

She'll be eligible for parole in 30 years.

The judge in US takes child abuse VERY VERY SERIOUSLY.

The judge said that the mother "almost killed" her child so that's why.

'You savagely beat your child to the edge of death,' he said.

Anyway, I am glad that she got caught and her precious child is saved.

It is really easy to assume than to find out what went wrong. Maybe she was raped, or maybe it was part of her personality that got her screwed up. There are too many possibilities so assuming is bad idea.
