I'm not overweight or obese, and I'm a golden oldie...

...and do agree that exercise is the best thing along with watching what you eat....My boys are not overweight either, as they always were very athletic and active.
Now, as we age, it's gets harder to get those pounds off...so we just eat less and drink lots of water, take walks if we are not able to exercise strenously....
Becoming obese and overweight really does a number on ur kees and back. So to avoid being overweight in the later years, then exercise, eat healthy and drink lots of water. I'm still execising, tread mill and some free weights.
