OK so for the past 3 weeks I haven't been sleeping properly. I tried melatonin, didn't work. I tried a mild sleep aid from my doctor Rx and that worked for 2 days then I was back to not sleeping, Went back to the doctor and he gave me trazodone last friday..same thing..slept 2 nights fully through the night, and since then every other night I've gotten up at every like hour from having crazy dreams or just waking up for no reason and not being able to get back to sleep to tonight where I didn't fall asleep at all...I'm very frustrated at this point..

I just wanna sleep :'(

I feel your pain :-( I wanna sleep too though lately my problem involves heartburn that wont go away and getting to the point where I feel pressure pain on my chest, feeling acid in my throat and issues breathing. Can't go to a doctor because I'm waiting for my insurance to be fully processed. Could go to the E.R. but I feel a bit silly going in over a heartburn matter. Least I think its heartburn.... I get this usually right before bed or right when I wake up. It's hell and been going on for years.

You should try to drink Sleepy Time Tea, particularly the one with Valerian root in it, you'll see that on the front of the package. Knocks me out sometimes.

Why are you trying to solve this with drugs first? Are you exercising regularly? Are you eating right? Has something been bothering you? There could be a lot of reasons. I'd only go for the drugs if you have something physical that is causing the loss of sleep, like if you are in pain during the sleep time. After that, I'd look into something medical.

To clarify you were talking to Alicia right?

I'm guessing you've tried putting extra pillows under you to raise your head & chest. This can help with heartburn.
Also, consider what you have to eat/drink within hours of bed time. I find that cola and chocolate can cause my mild heartburn at night.

Though, with you mentioning the acid in the throat does sound like acid reflux, you may still want to go to the ER just to make sure it's not your heart. My husband was sure his chest pains were gas/heartburn and delayed going to the ER. When he finally did let me take him, it turned out to be his heart afterall.

Yea I tried that and I was still feeling it. It was kinda weird at first it didn't really feel like heartburn, just felt like someone was sitting on my chest. didn't matter what position I laid in, so I got out of bed, took the chew tabs and that didn't help much. If I lay back down its going to feel worse.

Going to give it a bit and if its worse I'll get checked out. No car atm and I don't want to wake up my gf and the roomies at 6am.

Do you get sick every so often after eating with a severely sour stomache? I had the same issue for years my doctor thought it was acid reflux but wasnt, last month he did a blood test, ultrasound and MRI on my liver/pancreas and gallbladder... turns out my gallbladder was full of sludge and some stones so it was removed. I have been feeling great ever since.

I'd suggest you get to the ER soon and tell them you think you're having a heart attack (or silent heart attack) and don't mention that you think its acid reflux. Hopefully this way they'll test you for heart problems rather than dismiss it as acid reflux and not check your heart. Hopefully you'll get a good cardiologist assigned to you (unlike my husband - the cardiologist they assigned him didn't "think" it was his heart but luckily let him stay in the cardiac "outpatient" room overnight because my husband ended up needing to have a stent put in during the night).

i feel your pain aswel,i take everything available, desperate times desperate measures.try valarian oil best quality and put it on pillow case,it smell like sh1t but it dowork for few days.hope you get nights kip

I'm not stressed, I do work out, I cut out caffeine and caffeinated soda if I have one, I've tried relaxation teas, relaxation epsom salts for the back before bed, and nothing seems to be working. Last "night" I didn't fall asleep til this morning at 6 something and woke up at 12.
I'm gonna try to put some essential oils in my humidifier tonight...maybe a bit of the noise will help the tinnitus ringing *if I can hear the humidifier with my has off* and hopefully the essential oils will help me sleep?

Ladysolitary- Do you take any meds for your acid reflux? I take tecta but not everyday anymore only when I really need it and if my acid reflux is really bad I take the maalox type chalky stuff *flavored* ...it tastes gross but reallyyyyy helps

how many hours did you work out? everyday?

I notice that in myself if i work out everyday, and it got overdo that kept me UP at night. weird!

I don't work out everyday ...right now about 3 times a week and my workout is mostly cheerleading in which I only practice myself once a week and then I bike and sometimes go to the gym so I'm not working out excessively or anything...

Have you slept well during bouts of tinnitus in the past?

When I first started to get tinnitus no I didn't sleep because the ringing bothered me so much...then I got used to it and no problem ..but sometimes its louder from being around loud noise and more recently I've noticed on the whole it's a LOT louder than it used to be...maybe because I've lost more hearing/comprehension?

Stop eat and drink only a water for 24 hours to flush your body. Then see how thing goes.

Alicia, do you consume caffeine laced products, have something in the back of your head, eating incorrectly, not winding down, dehydrated, etc. What do you feel in bed, aside from not being able to sleep?
