Ooh rah! About time!

it's oo-rah. not oh-rah.

I saw this on the news tonight, and I was happy these men finally got the recognition they deserve.

Unfortunate so many died before it happened, but still good it is being done.

Thanks. When you have families who have been Marines, you would get to know that yell, including at their graduations. One reason not to have a dialogue with those who don't get it. Saying "oh rah" and "ooh rah" do not sound the same. The "oh" sound is a shortened one and that goes to Arnold Horshack whenever he thinks he knows the answer and blurts out the distinctive "oh! oh! oh!"[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivVDf2owVw4"]Oh! Oh! Oh![/ame] response while raising his hand to Mr. Kotter's question thinking he has the right answer but doesn't. It'd be silly to say "oh rah! if not highly insulting for not saying it right in the Marine Corps. So, the "oh" one is quite stupid while the "ooh" rah is the correct sound and pronunciation.

Motivational Call - OOH RAH, OO RAH, HOORAH
Pronounced oooo ra. The spelling for it you will find to be far from the same. Oorah, Hoorah, Ooh-Rah, etc.. But which one is correct and where did it come from?

The answer is rarely the same anywhere, although OOHRAH (OOH-RAH) is used most frequently by Marines and usmc.mil as well as other government sites. The Marine Corps even registered OOH-RAH as a trademark. Even though no where is there something that says that OOH-RAH is the official spelling it is safe to say that it is the correct spelling given the above facts.

It's littered on the Marine Corps website.

So, saying or writing "oh" gets hinky. One can tell that would be the case just by listening to any "ooh rah" yell on YouTube. My title remains correct. "Ooh" is right, the shortened "oh" is just stupid. Ya gotta learn to listen to it first.
