To me, when someone decide to reveal their name without permission, it's like that person don't know how to keep their hand down.

Has this really happened on AD? I'm not aware it has happened.
I think he's referring to using someone's name within the text of a posted reply.

That is, posting something like, "Hey, Josephine, sorry you had such a bad day in your rant post."

Or, "Michael, you can pm me."

I noticed this happened a few times.

or "Oh! That's Derp Herb!"

I find it annoying and they don't have respect for anyone. And when someone ask direct to me instead someone answer it for me. It's not right.

poweron did you report to mod about removing the name if you see someone uses someones real name? :aw:

There are time to time that I know few people real names on AD and when I reply, I actually typed out his/her name without thinking!! Just that I'm glad I always review my post before I click "Submit to the world of prying eyes"

I am a person whose username is basically my name, so I am used to people replying with my name. I do get what PowerOn is saying. Some people really want to maintain their privacy and if a person/user here on AD knows them from somewhere else, they should never use the real name if it's not part of the username.

I know the real names for quite a few AD users and I don't think I have ever used the real name by mistake. :hmm:

There are many reasons to keep it privacy as much we can, as you may seen it so far about not revealing my name or even in pictures. It's because of job situation, especially for my wife. She get to meet many deaf people every day and if I bring up something that is very controversial related to deafness and if that client is a member on AD get outrage, that client will scream at my wife about what happening on AD during 1 hour therapy session instead of getting self healing. You know? Sometime many deaf people get misunderstood so many times. So, my wife have pictures of me in her office and don't want clients to get recognized.
Secondly, due to my job if I get any flame war and get lot of attention toward me, just like what happen to Berry Sewell (I'm sure many know him) and he get lot of attention and get all bad mouthing him or threating him or whatever... I can get suspended from Top Secret Security Clearance and I'm not able to do my part of my job and even I can lose my job. You know many of the security agents do not understand about Deaf Culture, it's nothing like what happen to my former CEO of old job that he lost security clearance due to report by his ex-wife that he abused children. He didn't abuse children, I know him very well. It just part of his ex-wife's revenge.

So, there's a valid reason for keeping privacy as much as possible.

Wirelessly posted

I can understand that some of you prefer to keep real Name in private, I respect that. I have no problem reveling my name in username :)

well I used to have a very careless view of personal info. after having seen the results of a internet stalker taking action into someone's life, my attiude changed. privacy should be respected. also keep in mind that if some one wants to find another person, they will. it can be done in minutes. there are dangerous people out there.
