Bill: No snacks for food stamp users

On the other hand, the factites go into paroxysms over who has the best spoonfed information. :giggle:

"Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?" :giggle:

Actually I am though. :hmm:

I think part of the problem is politics stepped in to decide what is healthy and what is not. It's not the place of politics to decide what is good for your body and what is not. It's up to the health professionals to come up with guidelines. Policy should be drafted based on the recommendations of the nutritionist professionals, not the recommendations of lobbyist.

Indeed, there is an assumption that a food can be classified as "healthy" or "unhealthy" across the board for every individual in every situation. Really? I have a bowel disorder that means I must eat only foods low in fibre, so if fruit and vegetables were prioritised it would leave me nothing to eat. Here in Scotland certain people get "healthy start" vouchers when they are pregnant. I was not allowed to work during pregnancy because I was tremendously high risk pregnancy, but the vouchers were only for milk or fruit and veg, so I bought milk with them. Stupidly, I was very low in iron but was not allowed to use my "healthy" vouchers to correct my iron problem and had to have tablets which made me really ill.

Foods are blanket labelled as "good for you" or "bad for you" and that just isn't the case for everyone. Fish is "good for you" but I'm so allergic to tuna that it would kill me. My daughter had a dairy allergy but we were only allowed to spend her "healthy start" vouchers on dairy, not on soy yoghurts or the various other protein sources the dietician had told us. My friend with severe Crohn's disease needs to eat a diet that is ludicrously high in fat to try to keep his body weight above 100lbs (on a 5 foot 9in male). His cookbook suggests adding as much oil as possible to every meal, it's all about how to add absurd amounts of fat without it tasting too awful, how to hide fit in an otherwise low fat meal.

And that's before you remember that medical science is more art than science, and that we have been ludicrously wrong in the past. It is merely our best guess that these things are true. One of the biggest reasons obesity is the new big killer is people fail to die from measles, polio and TB any more. People who are not obese will not live forever, they will merely die of something different. One reason obesity has gone up in the UK is they have changed the boundaries so that you are "overweight" then immediately "obese". You used to be "Fat" then "Very fat" then "Obese" so of course more people are obese. They also weigh more people because they are obsessed with what people weigh, so again if you go looking for stuff you find more of it. If you reel people in to test them for diabetes you will find more of it than you did before when you waited for people to come in feeling ill. There is more type 2 diabetes because the qualifying fasting blood glucose to be diagnosed has come down and down. And don't get me started on the stupid, stupid BMI! I wear a UK size 8, which I believe is now a US 4, but apparently I am overweight and should lose over 20 lbs. :eek3:

The governments of the world used to be invovled in supplying free cigarettes to patients in hospital and free sunbeds to give people a healthy sun tan, we learned better of these things. Free will at least allows you to take your own chances and follow your own beliefs and if you die then you die by your own hand and your own choices, not have them imposed upon you.

THANK YOU JESUS!!!
Fla. House Won't Ban Use Of Food Stamps For Junk Food - Politics News Story - WPBF West Palm Beach

Like i said,,If the wealthy can hire lawyers to get around not paying the I.R.S we ordinary people can find loopholes not to pay sales taxes.

You cannot compare with IRS and food stamp, just very bad compare.

You need more conservatively on consumption of sugary soda and when you have diabetes so you will face tough luck, also you are in greater risk group due to age.

Freedom and freewill. We are free what we eat and drink. We dont live in China or North Korea.
After taxes, you can spend your earnings however you want. Unfortunately, until America switches over to a Fair Tax system, individuals' income taxes have to be deducted first. Other than that, you can spend freely. :)

Good luck dealing with the senate Democrats on this one. Even the House republicans pass this idea Harry Reids guys would just strike it down. They want the Wealthy to pay their fair share.

Freedom and freewill means you need more responsibility to take care of your health.

The congress is free to ban on food stamp to cover junk food and soda, whatever they want though.

Food stamp is necessary for fighting the hunger and sugary soda are not nutrient essentials to keep out of hunger.

If the Fair Tax does pass in the future. Id just would go to my Social Security office and request a $200 Trade for food stamps. For example im making $1200 on my SSDI get $200 food stamps i get $1000 a month So there no sales tax cause you cant charge sales taxes on food stamps. So There! :cool2:

Americans For Fair Taxation: Frequently Asked Questions

You don't pay any income taxes with SSDI.

I'm fine with current tax system and you are free to use loopholes whatever you want.

AMEN!!! But We do need Abolish gas taxes and create toll highways. Like if you get on an Interstate highway you pay $3 as you enter the highway. That pays for new roads, bridges and highways. Can you imagine how much the government get during weekday rush hour? It would encourage people to car pool Thats $30 a week you gotta pay just to go to work. $120 a month. Commerical Trucks and Busses are extempt.

It won't happen and abolish the federal gas taxes are more complicated because toll highways are regulated by state so federal won't collect any pieces to cover. The state gas tax should up to state to make decision and I don't want tolls in our area. If you don't want gas tax so complain to legislators in your state.

I don't know what you consider to be a "loophole" but I pay whatever taxes are legally required. I don't like it but I don't try to sneak out of anything. Each time I get a paycheck, I send in 1/3 of it to the US Treasury. In addition to that, I pay state income tax, property tax, personal property tax, gas tax, and sales taxes.
