What are you thinking about? Part V

I am actually thinking less about our signing and the fact that my Shih Tzu is going to the veterinarian at 1:30 today.

I am actually expecting to find out she has colon cancer .

If we get good news, and she can be fixed, I will be back in full force.

Otherwise I am going to be very, very sad for a while.

Wirelessly posted

You need a new see dictionary.

This is the latest edition.

I don't understand why you guys are fighting me about this. I just posted pictures from the SEE dictionary itself, and you are still telling me I'm wrong.

Whatever.

Those dictionaries have been referred in the deaf community as "dictionaries of errors". It is a joke because many of them have been published by people who never really interacted with the Deaf community or people who werent careful and as a result, errors have been made.

It seems pretty clear you are looking for a fight and I'm not interested.

I will say though, I find your statement to be inflammatory. If you went back and re-read my post, you
would have taken note of the fact that I was referring specifically to the initialized signs in SEE.

I responded to you in the same manner in which you addressed me. I find it interesting that you're
trying to twist my comment as if it was a correction to you and those that responded. As I was
perfectly clear I wasn't referring to the true ASL signs for "breakfast, lunch, and dinner".

I also find it interesting that you bolded another portion of what I quoted, which wasn't what I was
referencing.

When I said "I'm sorry, but you're totally wrong" I was referring specifically to the fact that the
initialized signs in SEE are in fact a circular motion. I even pulled a quote and bolded the reference
from Lifeprint for easy viewing. That is what I was referring to- not whether or not it "taps" or
"bounces" off the chin.

Angle is learning how to sign. She was taught the initialized signs, and I was clarifying for her that the
initialized sign is a circular motion. I did not reccomend anyone use the initialized sign, people can use what they wish. Given that it seems Angle is still in the early stages, I was clarifying for her- not correcting you or any other posters.

I'd appreciate you not Twisting my comments into an insult to the Deaf posters who responded- as there were no insults or corrections to the way those are signed in ASL.

Many thanks in advance for taking the time to read what I wrote for what it is, rather than what you want it to be. :ty:

why don't you be a good doll and let the signers with over 20 years of experience explain it or clarify it to her?

I'm thinking we have exhausted this whole thing about SEE vs ASL here in this thread and that it may need to be moved to a different thread. We are basically agreeing to disagree. Most (the majority) have said they learned it one or two ways, one (single) has said it was learned another way. That does not make anyone the expert or totally 100% correct. What I do see is that some of us do accept criticism and teaching from those who have lived it their whole lives and those who have learned and teach it currently. There are also those who are wanting to learn and are hoping to be led down the right path. And then, there are some, who may have good intentions, but think that the way they learned is the right way and that the majority is wrong. This is getting to be a tiresome issues here on AD, at least to me. Can we please stop this bickering back and forth and have positive constructive criticism and help when one asks for it? I myself have learned quite a bit here and when I have questions, I do get answers. People here are helping me and I just need to carve out the time I need to apply it.

Now, let's let this thread get back onto track about "What Are You Thinking About? and not the continuing saga of "As The Stomach Turns", with the current episode being "Which is right? SEE or ASL?"

Yes. I am afraid she will have to be put to sleep. Very sad and afraid.

And she is only 7 years old. That's more like a middle aged dog. Not really old...

Sunny- this is from the SEE Dictionary. Whether or not people commonly sign it that way is really not the point. The point is, that is how it is that is how it is signed in SEE which is what I was addressing.

CSign, this from SEE signer. Whether or not dictionary show obsolete/unused sign not point. Point is, this how sign real life, which is more important how book shw.

I notbunderstand why you still fight us about this. Actual deaf people tell you otherwise, and you still tell us we wrong.

so you're saying they are wrong and dictionary is right?

Yes.
