It's the precedent, the official establishment of Thanksgiving Day in the USA, and history. That doesn't change.
I don't care what Obama said or didn't say about Thanksgiving this year. I'm just showing that, yes, there is a precedent for the President to mention God at Thanksgiving time. It's not something that just popped up this year.
A little history lesson never hurt anyone.
History must be kept in context of the day and time in which that particular historical document came to be. One cannot apply a concept from a different period with different social and political implications and apply it, without question. Just because there was a precedent of it having been done a century and a half ago does not mean that it is applicable to today. The U.S. is a different social climate that it was that long ago.
