Montreal, Quebec - Deaf friends wanted

Hi, I'm profoundly deaf and lately been wanting to learn ASL and meet other Deaf people but having a really hard time finding social groups and/or activities and events for the Deaf in Montreal.

thought I would introduce myself and say feel free to befriend me!

i would be glad to be ur friend. We all have hard time deaf community events. how skill is ur asl? hope to hear ur respond

So sorry for not responding to this thread earlier - I wish AllDeaf could send me email notifications each time someone replied.

right now I am taking private lessons in ASL and really happy about that and still seeking Deaf friends in Montreal. If you are also from Montreal, QC, get in touch with me!

There's a link near the top that says "Thread Tools" where you can have specific threads tell you when someone has replied, or you can just check the box below "Submit Reply" to change the Notification Type to something other than "Do not subscribe"

I'm goin' to go to Montreal next summer. So I really would be glad to meet some deaf - hearing impaired people there. I am declared to be deaf but due to my hearing aids I still get something around 60% of the spoken words. At least if it is in the English that is spoken by Québécois.

Oh yes, I meant it. I'm sorry for not having specified this. My French is not worth mentioning. Native speakers in English have some various kinds of colloquial speech and my ability to hear is not sufficient for that. But I could understand them all in Montreal, so I don't expect to have some problems with English.
 
By the way, I grew up bilingual and English was discarded when I was something around 12 cause of my hearing loss. So I am just out of practice with lip reading.

If you go way out in the East end, then you'll have problems finding people who can speak english but otherwise, it's pretty common for Montrealers to be bilingual. You'll be fine :0
 
I'm still kinda scared of having to find a room in Montreal by my own. I really avoid phone calls at any rate. If I ever go out of the city, I will try :deaf:. And if it is of no help I can still say ja ne parles pas le francais.

Are there some deaf people at McGill?
 
I saw my message of yesterday wasn't sent. So I hope I can remember parts of it. I asked if here are some people who go to McGill. It would be nice to meet some of them and talk about the life there.
 
I live an hour from Montreal right on the US border and will soon be living there within the year. I'm seeking to connect with other deafies in Montreal.
