Totally deaf since a pre-teen (14). Never wore a hearing aid in my life. 4 surgeries, one more to come in November....no ear drums and my nerves are dead. So, all in all, I've been deaf for 50 years, still have my speech, along with the accent.
First one was for a rare ear drum disease....second, third and 4th were for severe ear infections (both ears). The surgery I have coming up is for Cholesteatoma in the left ear. Surgery has been pending since the beginning of the year, as the ear has not been dry enough to operate....And I'm already having 2nd thoughts of having this surgery, but the disease is growing, so I may not have a choice about it. And for those who have had this surgery, know that the disease does and can coime back again.
I'm profoundly deaf yeah, but not 100% since you need some hearing anyway for your hearing aid to work and for me, it works a bit so I must have a tiny bit left, I cant hear anything without my hearing aid/implant, apart from very very loud noises
