Driver blinded by sun hits deaf pedestrian in Cedar Rapids | Eastern Iowa News Now
Sunlight blinded a Cedar Rapids driver Monday, causing her to hit a pedestrian, police said.
Emergency responders were called just before 6:30 p.m. to the intersection of E Avenue and 10th Street NW when the collision was reported. Police said a westbound PT Cruiser hit Duane Imoehl, 47, of Cedar Rapids, as he was crossing E Avenue NW.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said Imoehl is deaf and did not see the vehicle before he crossed at the corner. He was not in a crosswalk.
Imoehl was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, but was not listed as a patient there Tuesday morning, a hospital spokeswoman said. Police were unsure about the severity of his injuries.
No charges were filed against the driver of the vehicle, Jenna Harris, 24, of Cedar Rapids, police said.
