CI--Deaf or Hearing?

There are more DrPhils out there than there are of us in here?
Gawd help us all.

That will be the day I leave AD and lay down my advocacy cloak! It will be a lost cause at that point, lol.

And, expressing their opinion is a reason to be termed "militant"? I think I am going to start using the terms "hearing militant" and "oral militant."

I didn't label anyone deaf militant. I said there are still some small pockets of people who disapprove of CIs today. I think DrPhil and dc are the ones exploring the deaf militant term. I'm not sure exactly what it refers to, myself, aside from the old definition given in this thread.

In response to drphil's ranting about Deaf militants.

Eh, he was probably seeing an image of someone holding an AK-47 above his head, with CI's strung to it in place of scalps.

Now I see what PFH was saying.

Would you please explain to me why you don't like this comment? Is it at odds with what you said in some way? Is it insulting to say that there's no longer the hue and cry against CIs that you yourself said there was in the 90s.

Or on the flip side, do you think that by saying there's not a concerted effort against CIs, I'm disregarding something that you have seen out there, that I've not?

You are absolutely right. Drphil is having trouble understanding what he is reading about Deaf culture, and he is making mistakes because he has such a hard time understanding!

Nope. It is directed to you.

What, you think you can come in here and make any claim you choose and not have your credentials questioned? Now that's a bit unrealistic.

:laugh2: again, get over yourself. what claim? That I'm a Deaf kid's mother? And so, my credentials need to be checked? By that you mean where I work? Where I went to college? What degrees I have? Those things that you and pfh felt were so important to look into before deciding i could post here? What does any of that have to do with me having a Deaf child? Does everyone posting on this forum need to be academically vetted , and if so, by whom? What committee has to review our CVs and say that I have the right to share my child's experiences, to have discussions with others? Is there a publish or perish situation, too? Do I have to maintain a level of professional activity outside AD sufficient to maintain my tenure here on AD? And what right do you have to post this info, completely irrelevant to anything I've posted?

My work is not at all connected to my parenting of my Deaf child, and I've never, ever spoken on behalf of where I work, or suggested that some research I've done was in the service of supporting my decisions. If I said, hey, look, I'm a neurosurgeon at Y with 10 years experience in cochlear implant surgery, so take my word that X is the right approach, I could see it coming back to me in discussion, but I've never, ever referred to my work as a basis for credibility. For many reasons, but mostly because it doesn't have a thing to do with Deafness or my daughter, aside from supporting us financially.

I am not running around in circles with you on this.

Now you are just getting silly again.

:) yeah, I think DrPhil has a unique way of looking at things. I work hard to understand and see it from his perspective, sometime I do, sometimes I don't. But we all have our own way of seeing things, expressing things, and not everyone else reads us correctly, and we don't always get our points across the way we wish we did. And sometimes we're just bouncing thoughts and questions off other people and gathering input as we work out our own views.

And there you go again.:thumb: Can't you refrain from correcting every single post a Deaf person makes on this topic? It is really patronizing and insulting when you attempt to explain a poster to them when they are perfectly capable of forming their own opinions from their own perspective.
