CI--Deaf or Hearing?

It seems she already answered this before.

Thank you Kristina and Bott!!

I appreciate everyones input to try to make AUTOFUZZY understand that I have already answered his question.

Autofuzzy--Everything you asked is CLEARLY in my replies. If that is not what you want to hear then too bad. If I have stated I STILL NEED TO READ LIPS, and such and such do you really think the CI helps with speech??

Please use your brain. Everyone would appreciate it.

If you love the CI so much go ahead and have one put in your butt, I DONT CARE WHAT YOU DO--but DO NOT try to make it seem like something wonderful to someone who has a hard time with it.

I still need to read lips with my implant, occasionally I will pick up snippets, but old habits die hard, I will always lipread, I get most of my information that way. But I became deaf from a very young age and wore hearing aids till the age of ten so I will never be like a "normal" hearing person.

flat out LIE.

absolutely. That is why so many people advocate for early childhood implantation. The outcomes are very different.

Not entirely correct. In fact, a long way from correct.

What is in my tool box? If my Cochlear Implant of 4 years becomes "unuseful" I suppose my prior CHS SpeechReading might come in handy as well Fingerspelling. One can also have a blank pad and ask others to write. Perhaps live in Bob Rumballs Centre for Deaf seniors/Toronto. Restudy the ASL introduction material I took over 15 years ago.

Continue to live in a silent world-which I experience-now- everyday-swimming.

What is in your potential toolbox AOS?

Implanted A B Harmony activated Aug/07

Your toolbox is damned near empty.

Well, Shoshana - am I going to get a straight answer out of you, or not?

Remember, the question I asked you was - do you understand speech better with your CI on?
(- just yes or no answer, please)

Fuzzy

Here's a question for you: do you understand English? Soshana has answered your questions. You just didn't get the answer you want. Don't ask the question if you aren't prepared to accept the answer.

Umm, no, sorry, you didn't answered my question. my question was very straight up and simple - do you understand more speech with your CI on?

I understand that you need to read lips. I do, too. I stated that in one of my replies to you earlier.
But that is not my question if you need to read lips.
My question is the opposite - if you understand speech better while reading lips AND hearing some speech/sound with CI on? - yes or no?

Why are you rude to me, and can you please not be?

I would appreciate if you simply answer my question - I hope you are not afraid to ?

btw my nick is Audiofuzzy.

My goodness. She's clearly stated she needs to read lips even with a CI on. That should answer your question, "loud" and clear. Your REPEATED question of "do you understand more speech with your CI on?" seems to be moot if she STILL has to lipread. I think everyone else in this thread has gotten that concept.

Talk about being rude. Ignorance is not an excuse for rudeness on your part.

No im not giving you a cut and dry (AS STATED BEFORE) because it can not be put as such and I already went into detail about how it is. If thats not enough or simple enough for you then Im sorry.

Based on amount of people that "liked" my post id guess they agree.

I am not afraid to answer your question but that I already have and dont care much to repeat myself when one can simply read back.

You know, for as simple and straightforward question as I've asked you,
it is very strange and suspicious that you still refuse to give me as straightforward and simple answer.

Why are you being evasive?
What are you hiding?
Why are you hiding behind others backs?

Your rudeness toward me, your evasiveness and lack of honesty is making me think you just don't want to admit that yes,
in fact the CI does help you to understand speech a bit better.

Your reluctance is totally unnecessary, because I am not going into some stupid contest
"see, the CI is godsend wonder piece of technology and everybody should bow before it"
but I simply wanted to know if it helps you or not, like my HAs help me.

It did however occurred to me that perhaps in this general bash against the CI, sometimes we forget that everything comes at a price.

You may have got vertigo and other s/e from your CI, but it also help you hear speech and other sounds better.

Maybe you don't care about these benefits, and would happily get rid of them. Maybe you don't care about hearing this little bit better,
and that is fine - I understand that. It is your choice and I respect that.

On the separate issue, though, the fact remains that with all those side effect the CI also does help you some, period.

if it is soooooooooooooo good and the best thing since sliced bread - why don't you have it?

ohhhh wait, it's not a miracle. It's not a cure-all. my bad.

Shoshana, you cannot survive with CI because it will kill you instantly with emergency electrocuter equipment or heart defibrillator if they are trying to save your life from any kind of trauma accident or heart attack.

Hehehehe..I see your irony. Good one. :D

I'm a prelingual as well. I was born deaf.

What's so funny..at Baltimore DPHH, I encountered a drunk hearing guy (college student from the area) who was so upset that a Deaf guy took his picture for the DPHH website. He didnt know why so I explained to him what is was for and blah blah...so I was able to understand him allll the way with my HAs and ended up interpreting for him to some of my freinds who were HOH.

The point is..it is about inner ability, not about heairng levels.

First let me begin by saying yes she is my girlfriend and sure I'm gonna stick up for her as any GENTLEMEN would do.

Now as you keep asking the same question about weather it helps her hear and understand speech. If she didn't answer you the first or second time what makes you think the third fourth or maybe the fifth time.
Tho she said that she still has to read lips with the CI on one indicate that NO it doesn't help.

She also hasn't always been completely deaf but gradually became deaf rather quickly at a young age would help her to remember some sounds of speech.

She also stated that the CI has caused side affects such as vertigo. Do you know how vertigo affects someone or do you know someone with vertigo and been with them enough time to see the effects. With that being said im sure that the cons far out way the benefits there for it not helping.

Now if that hasn't answered your question. Please do me and everyone else here who gets it and stop being so RELUCTANT to DROP IT.

As to the respect issue to me and I'm sure everyone else i don't see where or how she was disrespectful in anyway, and unfortunately i can say you haven't been rather respectful your self by constantly nagging and going on about the same question. Im most cases if a woman doesn't answer the question the first few times the way you wanted it to be answered you give her the respect and stop asking.

Sorry if you feel disrespected by this or by anything else but really its only a forum on the internet don't get so hurt by it.

sincerely,
Joeyb

That is very nice of you.

Now as you keep asking the same question about weather it helps her hear and understand speech. If she didn't answer you the first or second time what makes you think the third fourth or maybe the fifth time.
Tho she said that she still has to read lips with the CI on one indicate that NO it doesn't help.

Obviously, I was hoping at one point she will give me a straight answer I was hoping for.
After all, I didn't ask anything dishonest or dirty.
I asked a simple question that required equally simple yes or no answer.

Tho she said that she still has to read lips with the CI

That however wasn't my question.
Being deaf myself, I know the difference between lip-reading with or without hearing aids.
For some deaf or H-o-H it doesn't make a difference at all
or much of a difference. For some it does.
I simply wanted to know what was the case with your girlfriend.
If she didn't have a hidden agenda, why wouldn't she simply answer my question?

She also hasn't always been completely deaf but gradually became deaf rather quickly at a young age would help her to remember some sounds of speech.

Similar to me, except I was losing my hearing slowly.
Thus I too, remember many sounds rather than truly hear it.

She also stated that the CI has caused side affects such as vertigo. Do you know how vertigo affects someone or do you know someone with vertigo and been with them enough time to see the effects. With that being said im sure that the cons far out way the benefits there for it not helping.

Yes I do.
I know people with vertigo, and occasionally due to my migraines,
I was affected with a few seconds vertigo myself. Granted, it is nothing comparing to what your girlfriend suffers from but the point is, yes I know what vertigo is and how unpleasant it can be.
This however has nothing to do how effective can CI be sound-wise.
Vertigo or not, the CI still enables to hear.

Whether or not one choose vertigo or ability to hear, is another matter.
Like I've stated before, it's personal choice, and I respect that.
So, if your girlfriend chose not to use CI because of vertigo, I respect that.
But that does not negate the fact that CI still helps her to hear sounds better.
With CI, she simply can hear better and has vertigo (sadly).

Now if that hasn't answered your question. Please do me and everyone else here who gets it and stop being so RELUCTANT to DROP IT.

Like I've said before, I see no reason why Shoshana couldn't have answered my simple question herself - not that I care anymore.
It was -again - a simple question that she and everybody else ridiculously ballooned out of proportion.

So, in your opinion this is polite?
If you love the CI so much go ahead and have one put in your butt,

I wanted definite answer, is all. I wasn't getting it.
A person who has nothing to hide has no problem simply giving out an answer,
instead of causing a few pages long pointless arguing and hiding behind others back.

Thank you for seeing this from my POV
