Man wears a pasta strainer on his head for his driver's license photo.

:laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

A self-confessed atheist, Mr Alm says he belongs to the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, a light-hearted, US-based faith whose members call themselves pastafarians.

"mentally fit"

That was actually one of the only parts of this story that irked me. I was glad they let him wear it, but how many others who are wearing a yamulke or turban or viking hat or whatnot have to get a psych evaluation?

Just glancing at his photo, it looked like he was wearing a simple cap. If I didn't know that it was a colander, I probably wouldn't have thought twice about it.

As long as his facial features are clear, that's good enough for me.

A yarmulke is wore for religions reason , and I find it insulting to use that as an example.

...yeah, that's the point. That's why they're allowed to wear headwear whatsoever, is for religious reasons. The guy in this article was claiming to wear that for religious reasons as well.

How can an atheist have religious reasons?

How can an atheist have religious reasons?

Multiple ways.

1) There are atheistic religions (Universalist Unitarians, many sects of Buddhism, etc).

2) Peoples' "religious beliefs" are purely internal and essentially can't be contradicted by anyone, which means an atheist can just claim to believe any religion he or she wants, as many do when they tongue-in-cheek proclaim belief in Pastafarianism (as this man did) or any number of other "religions".
