Rural living means less stress

Wirelessly posted (sent from a smartphone. )

Depends on the city. Some cities are green in the city limits. That fact doesn't prove anything. Its less depressing to have lot to do than being bored in rural areas with almost nothing to do and you have to drive many miles to major areas to do errands and even work.

It all depends on the person. Some people are more fitting for the rural lifestyle while others arent.

I can see how rural living can be very relaxing though becuase I feel that my life has been so stressful living a fast paced life in the city of Baltimore but I love love the city life despite all its problems. Cant win them all.

Also, rural living tends to make it harder to get to a store when things pop up that you need, and, sometimes emergency services take forever. We had an issue where we needed a fire truck and it took 20 minutes to get there. Also, taking a child to the ER can take a lot, our drive was 30 minutes to the nearest ER. You can bee too far away from other services or needs as well.

Not always..I lived in the city of Rockville, MD and the stores were soooooooo far away. Like a good 30 min drive and Rockville was only 10 mins from DC. That's why I love love living where I live...I CAN walk to the food store so when we had those major blizzards, no problem! We walked to the food store to get foods. Yes, Balitmore has its problems but my community has the small town feel but has the big city convience.

Jiro and TheWriteAlex, agree or not? lol

That's a suburb of DC. We are talking about rural areas like 40. Or 50 miles away out in middle of nowhere.

I understand. I was in a small community of 1200 outside of Columbia, MO. We were 22 miles from Columbia and it was hard at times. I really did love the country feel and such, but the people were more like, "hey, you aren't from here, you're only a transplant, so these activities don't concern you". I was there for 10 years and still never really felt comfortable. It was bad enough there that my brother would never visit much. I had to drive 28 miles to his house to see them.

Ah well, to each his own. I am in the middle of a HUGE city and at times I hate it, but I am very pleased that things are so much closer, the neighbors are nicer and I have more of a deaf community.

that's why people in rural area are much more self-sufficient than city slickers.

If your child is in a dire need of medical attention, they will medevac him/her.

:)

right now - I prefer living in city-suburb area during weekday and a small town that has a major plaza nearby (the kind of area where it has all major stores in one spot - Target/Walmart/Home Depot/Staples/etc.) during weekend. I want my getaway home to be located on small mountain cliff.

I like my moderate sized city. Everything I need is in walking distance, and there is fairly good public transportation to get around the whole city if I want.

Right, I understand that. We had our vegetable gardens, the landlord next door got us fresh meat, beef and pork, for the deep freeze twice a year and added it to the rent and we got fresh milk daily as well as fresh eggs.

As far as medical, my son always managed to get his raging fevers and ear infections in the middle of the night on the weekends. Never when I could take him to the primary care doctor. Also, not important enough for medevac. Out there, they only used it for farm accidents and car accidents.

You, sir, are contributing to hte poverty of America.

Maybe an in-between?

I'm now in a big city. Not my most favorite place to be, but really better for me. I now am closer to a deaf community, closer to everything and even within a long walking distance (if my legs could handle it) to a Walmart. (1 1/2 miles)

City slicker here too....even tho' I know rural living is somewhat good for you, I tried it for several years (in N.C.)....I gained 20-30 lbs.!...Bored out of my skull...even tho' the "excitement" at first of having my own vegetable garden, and lots of animals, even a goat and chickens....

Agree with everyone here. Depends on the person has to how they adjust to either a rural life, or a life in the city. And depression certainly is dependent upon anyone's address. The incidence of depression does not change just because a person lives in the country.

Deaf children living in rural communities often have to face far more barriers than the people living in urban communities. For instance, it can be difficult to find an interpreter for a student living in a town with a population of 10,000.

I wouldn't mind living in a rural community, but I am living in more of a suburb area at the moment.
