Three words is important

And before Christ, too. So what's the problem? Christ is revered worldwide and that is fine with me.
No problem for me. People (since Adam and Eve) who believed that God would provide a Savior for them looked forward in faith to that time (Jesus's crucifixion). Since the time of Jesus's crucifixion, people now look back in faith to His finished work.

True. But once I saw a Muslim interpreter at a funeral. He approached the altar with Christ on the cross upon it, bowed respectfully to it, and continued interpreting. I was struck at the grace.

That's because Muslims consider Jesus as an important prophet and the Messiah of the Children of Israel in their religion. The Qu'ran is just God's final revelation to mankind.

As well you should have been. That was one of the most respectful things I can imagine.

Some people need that, and I am happy Christianity is available. :)

Even those religions who disagree with his Godly status admit that he was no doubt, a wise and phophetic man....
If they believe he was not God, then do they believe he was insane or a liar about being the Son of God and Savior? Wouldn't that negate all of his wisdom and prophecy?

Talking about Jews? Many Jews still believe Christianity is a good thing, just people are following the wrong faith.

It's like how Christians think of Buddhists as good people.

That is surprising since bowing before any kind of image is idolatry to a Muslim.

There are those who would argue in favor of the insanity defense, yes. And they have very compelling data.

And then there are other religious scholars who simply believe that the belief stems from misinterpretation between languages.

But Muslims don't bow to images, do they? They don't have images of Mohammed.

He was really bowing to the whole altar. You would have approved had you seen it. It is a small thing, but I will remember that moment for the rest of my life.

He was indicating respect for the belief system of others. More should follow his lead. I'm certain if a Budda statue had been there, he would have shown the same respect.

Actually, not idolatry. Idolatry implies false worship. Since Jesus is still the Messiah who will come back to disprove the False Prophet in the End Time, he is not a false idol. The word you're looking for is "aniconism."

And it depends on what branch of Islam. It's discouraged, but not forbiddened. Unfortunately, most of us in the West associate Islam with Sunnis, who does shun any religious depiction in their scriptures.

I am totally certain he would have. :)

Additionally, inclining the head as a sign of respect for the religion of another is not worship. It is good manners and graciousness.

:ty:

I thought they weren't supposed to bow to any representation of any religious figure, false or otherwise.

Just a wondering piece here...

Since it's the soul that goes to heaven or what not, is the death of a body an end all for that soul? After all a body is a body.

Hey... I would be pissed if someone thought Anabaptism is the same as Protestantism. I am sure Shi'a, Sufis and Kharijites would also resent being mixed up with Sunnis. :)

When a person dies, the body and soul go to the grave, and the spirit goes to either Heaven or Hell, until the Final Judgment. (I'm giving a very condensed in time and details explanation here.) At the end, all bodies and souls will be resurrected out of their graves and joined again with their spirits. That will be for eternity. For some, that means eternity in Heaven, for others, it means eternity in Hell. (I'm using the most commonly used terms here.)

True. Many people don't realize that today's Baptists were originally called Anabaptists, and that they're not Protestants. :giggle:
