From the Department of Walk Backs, Gingrich and mandates

By Domenico Montanaro, Political Reporter, NBC News

As we noted in First Thoughts, Newt Gingrich on Meet the Press acknowledged his past support for an individual health-insurance mandate:

“I agree that all of us have a responsibility to help pay for health care. And I think that there are ways to do it that make most libertarians relatively happy. I've said consistently, where there's some requirement you either have health insurance or you post a bond or in some way you indicate you're going to be held accountable.”

But now Gingrich is walking that back. In a video posted on his Web site, he says:

"I am completely opposed to the Obamacare mandate on individuals. I fought it for two and half years at the Center for Health Transformation. You can see all the things we did to stop it at HealthTransformation.net. I am for the repeal of Obamacare and I am against any effort to impose a federal mandate on anyone because it is fundamentally wrong and I believe unconstitutional."

Flip flop, flip flop.

Oh well. The Republicans needed a frontrunner and they got one. Now they can sleep at night. :)

I hope Gingrich does NOT get the Republican nomination. I never did want him to run for President.

Oh, good. We wouldn't want a newt in the White House, would we?

I agree but in some recent polls on the names out there for the 2012 race, Gingrich ranks pretty low.

He doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of beating Obama.

Hell no.

How about Trump? He dropped out saying that he could have won and helped this country, but decided to help himself instead. A real patriot.

I think he was bluffing; he could only win the election in his fantasy world.

He did the patriotic thing by dropping out, and getting out of the way.

He has been doing that for many years!! He bluffs that he will run for President then he backs out when he finds out he is not as popular as he wants to be.

He did himself and all others a favor by dropping out. LOL

Why would his own ego allow him to leave his own financial empire and control of his companies and see that his own freedom to move around gets restricted? He knew that by not saying anything whether he'll run or not he'll get all the spotlight over for a few months will give him loads of free publicity and marketing air time for his company(ies) and tv show.

I have a feeling Trump's inflated ego is going to catch up with him sooner or later.

Any takers on when he files for bankruptcy again?

Funny thing is, I have already posted about Obamacare and yet people claimed that doesn't exist.

Five times already.

That point is moot anyways, many members of the congress have already been associated with bankruptcy.

I think Newt would better off as an adviser to the president. I am with Reba on this one, I hope he is not elected to run on the GOP stump.

Herman Cain 2012!!

As long as the sound of "flip, flop, flip, flop" doesn't keep them awake.:P

Not off to a very credible start, ole Newt isn't.

I think Newt would be better off as a retired public servant.

I see today that Newt is on his apology tour of the networks for recent comments. He's a non-starter now. :D

Newton, I wouldn't call him Newt. It's a disgrace to amphibians to be compared to a slimy bastard that he is.
