Honda Insight can do the job just fine... and it's cheaper than Prius.You take any other new car, for that price, and it still will not get the fuel efficiency of a Prius. Maybe, with the exception of one - the smart car.

If your driving is mostly highway - it doesn't hurt to stick with a cheap used car like Honda. You'll be saving several grands that way.
If you prefer a brand new car, there are plenty of other cars with very good highway MPG for cheap... which is listed in the link you provided.
Even if we have all our oil drilled here, the free markets will likely hike it.
