Hi,

My name is Marcia and I am hearing. I am taking an introduction to sign language class because I had a cousin who was born Deaf about 9 months ago.
I am now at the end of the course and have to do an interview with someone who is Deaf as part of an assignment. If there is anyone available to do the interview I would greatly appreciate it. We can do it online or any other way convenient to you. Please, let me know! Thanks! I am available now.

Your instructor doesn't require you to interview a real live Deaf person, face-to-face?

How long was your course?

Yep, if that is the requirement for having the student go out to interview some Deaf people face to face. If she could not find Deaf people in her area, then the best bet would be going to the another city closer outside of her town or her city. There should be lots of Deaf people around. Just keep trying. :P

It does. I did have a parent of a student of mine who was going to do the interview but she has been in the hospital the last few days and she may not be able to do the interview anymore. I really don't know anyone else who is Deaf and don't have too many options at this point. This class began in February and ends in a few weeks. I hope to take ASL in the fall. I am willing to skype or video chat as well.

Sorry to be late. I was at the second birthday celebration of my second granddaughter. I don't even have the thread at hand now, but you might look up the one on doing interviews.

There are so many requests like this in a week, nobody wants to do one. You can find lots of material already here, or maybe go find a live deaf person in your community like your teacher intended.

We do not bite!

When I took ASL classes, any such interviews were supposed to be in person. The whole point was to interact with Deaf people.

To the op: Look up Meetup groups in your area, see if there are any for the deaf. Look up "deaf cafe" or "silent suppers" in your area.

If all else fails, hang out around an audiologist's office.

(OK, OK, I'm kidding on that last one. ;-) )

Yeah, I agree on interviewing someone in person. An online person can easily tell you that they are deaf when they are not deaf so that they can do interview. That wouldn't satisfy the assignment.
