Beacon Hill want fine smokerswith young kids in car!

No.

What is the difference between "potential" and "is"?

One is maybe and the other is for sure.

Eating and driving may cause an accident, but not always.

There is no way secondhand cigarette smoke is any good.

Ahhh, but here's the thing. I have smoked for over 30 years and am still disgustingly healthy. (I quit smoking three years ago.) My grandmother smoked and she lived to be 103. For sure? Nawww. It depends on your genetic disposition.

Do you know Benny Hinn personally? :giggle:

I hope this law gets passed in all of the states.

Is has not pass here yet, but if it does , I am sure other states will followup on it. I know smoking is horrible for babies and kids but it is one more way for the government to get people money! I just do not like the government telling people what they can't do ! Where does this end! It is a shame people do not realize the risk they're putting their kids by smoking around them!

I'm an off and on smoker....it's a pretty stinking habit!...I never light up in my car unless the window is rolled down or half-way cracked....Never use my car ash tray, because it stinks up your car....I carry a small ashtray for ashes and stub-outs.

I would never even think about smoking around babies or small children....and none of my boys smoke! They've heard and seen my "smokers hacking cough"...so, I'm all for this legislation.

Good for you.

I still remember riding places with my parents; both smoking cigs with the windows rolled up. It sucked bad. Glad to see this type of law. Hope they enforce it.

If it is enforced, it will likely be a 'secondary offense', meaning the police cannot pull you over for this offense alone, but you can be written a citation for it if you are pulled over and you are caught with a lit cigarette in the vehicle with a minor.

In that State of Arkansas, it is illegal to smoke in a vehicle with a child that is 6 years or younger. It is a secondary offense, however. I have been told they are pushing to increase the age to 12 years or younger.

So you put secondhand smoke right up there with eating and driving? Or texting while driving? Or taking your eyes off the road to fiddle with the radio? Just curious.

I do not still not listen to the radio at all and would do while driving as I want to be able to hear what is going on around me ! I might not hear a horn if
I am listening to the radio. It's against the law to text while driving here ,but the law is a joke! I saw a driver texting and driving at the same time as he drove right pass a cop car and the cop did not notice it!
I think it funny that my spell check tell me the word 'texting' is spelled wrong!

Where I live, the property managers sent all the residents a letter, regarding cigarette butts being throwed out on the property....they don't like it! I have smoker buckets on my front and back patio....and pick up any cig butts in the yard, or get a warning letter.

At the Beach, during low tide, you can see millions of cig butts in the sand....and I've seen bumper stickers that say...."Don't trash our planet....keep ur butts to urself".

The smoking habit really is nasty in so many ways. Pollution, yellow teeth, stinky smell, nasty skin, and black lungs. I dont see anything "cool" about it.

The Marlboro Man was cool...until he died from lung cancer. :eek3:

We have a guy at my condo that does that , he throw his cigarette butts on the ground and lawn, it is disgusting! The guy is disgusting too! Hework on his car and leave auto parts around too!

A lot of apartment complexes here are going tobacco-free due to the fires being started either by lighters or by unattended cigarettes. If you are a smoker they will tell you that you can smoke in your vehicle, but you cannot smoke outside or smoke in your apartment. If you are caught smoking in your apartment, it is grounds for eviction as per the contract.

A lot of new government apartments are being made tobacco-free from day one as well as those that are freshly renovated to meet new building requirements.

A few apartment complexes around here still allow smoking, but they are generally older apartments, and the renter will not get their deposit back on these apartments due to the smoking. It is to pay for the cleaning bill when they move out.

Someone told me recently that all Section 8 homes and apartments are now required to be smoke-free as well. I heard this from a friend in Missouri and 3 here in Palm Beach County.

They may be 'required' to be smoke-free, but unless the manager enforces it, there's nothing that can really be one.

I thought Section 8 had been smoke-free since the 1990's, no?

"ALLOW SMOKING ONLY IN ONE-FAMILY HOMES: Bans smoking in all residences except detached one-family homes." This is part of the law if it passed. I live in a condo and there are four units in the building. We had one guy who lived here and he was smoker and he would spit the most disgusting glob of flem right on walkway! It was so GROSS and I did not want my grandchild walking into ! I would love to see smoking be banned in my condo!

That I'm not sure of. I have a number of friends who live in Section 8 housing and they are all smokers. Even the owners of the property smoke and know the tenants do.

Is it state law where you live or is this federal law? If it goes into effect, how do they intend to enforce it outside of automatic eviction? But then again on the flipside, if the renter is paying to be there, they should be allowed to smoke there as well, but on the opposite end of that other renters will say they are paying to live there as well and would prefer a smoke-free apartment complex.

So who is right? Perhaps a compromise would be that in an apartment complex one building or group of apartments that are detached from the others can be designated as smoking apartments, specifically. As now even a certain amount of hotel rooms are designated as smoking rooms. They can use the 10% rule.
