It's already outlawed in the province of Ontario. Do you realize how much harmful substances there are in a single cigarette in an enclosed space? Imagine the amount a child would have to inhale in a small enclosed space with all the windows closed?

Over 7,000 chemicals in cigarette smoke.

What's the upside to exposing kids to that?

Would you stick your kids in a room with radon or asbestos? Same kind of thing.

BTW, I've read a lot of cigarette litigation cases. Did you know that at some point, some cigarette manufacturers put asbestos in their cigarette filters? As if they weren't toxic enough already! :eek3:

I am definatley in support of the law. A friend of mine has a 9 y/o niece with lung cancer they are attesting to the parents smoking.

I like that. I always hate the smell on my clothes from someone's smoking. No more excuse!

Some cigarette companies are making favored cigarettes to get more young people to smoke! I never smoked , I could not believe how much they cost today when saw the price of a box of them! You would think that would made people want to stop smoking!

I like it! Well....until it leads to jailing parents for buying a kid a hodog.

I have to disagree with you on that.. Hot dogs should be outlawed. All these split, hot, juicy, and steamy brats slathered in kraut slathered with all sorts of condiments at the ball park should be the only standard.... At the ball park only too! Our kids needs to get out more.

I'm a smoker, but I have to agree with the legislation. As for quitting, it's addictive and looking back it's a habit I wished I had never picked up, literally. I've tried several times to quit but I last anywhere from only 3 days to almost a month. I've had limited success with it. When the smokes get expensive, people just start smoking the cheap brands and buying the name brands only when they have 'extra money'.

I have tried the 'flavored cigarettes' and I don't care for them. They are nasty to me.

Again, I just wish I had never started in the first place.

Dixie, I am with you on all points.

I never smoke around any children of any size, other people, non smokers, close to others or in public. It is not only hazardous for health, but smelly and rude.

To smoke in a car with a child is unthinkable. It is like handing the little one a cigarette. No way! It is a shame that there is a need for such a law. As many other things, this should be a common sense and caring thing.

My dad was a chain smoker , his hands and teeth where stained from nicotine, seeing this was enough to keep me from smoking! Dad made me see that smoking was a disgusting habit and a waste of money!

Maybe that is want we need a law for people that do not have or use their common sense ! The government could made a lot of money that way!

I hope this law gets passed in all of the states.

Agreed. In some states there are laws against texting and driving. What about surfing radios in cars while driving? What about eating while driving? Do we outlaw drive-ins? I imagine these activities harm more children and adults than second hand smoke ever will.

Eating and driving can potentially harm others.

Secondhand cigarette smoke is definitely bad.

So you put secondhand smoke right up there with eating and driving? Or texting while driving? Or taking your eyes off the road to fiddle with the radio? Just curious.

No.

What is the difference between "potential" and "is"?

One is maybe and the other is for sure.

Eating and driving may cause an accident, but not always.

There is no way secondhand cigarette smoke is any good.

I still remember riding places with my parents; both smoking cigs with the windows rolled up. It sucked bad. Glad to see this type of law. Hope they enforce it.
