SIERRA BLANCA, Texas – A U.S. Border Patrol spokesman says country singer Willie Nelson was charged with marijuana possession after 6 ounces was found aboard his tour bus in Texas.

Patrol spokesman Bill Brooks says the bus pulled into the Sierra Blanca, Texas, checkpoint about 9 a.m. Friday. Brooks says an officer smelled pot when a door was opened and a search turned up marijuana.

Brooks says the Hudspeth County sheriff was contacted and Nelson was among three people arrested.

Sheriff Arvin West didn't immediately return a phone message left at his home Friday, but he told the El Paso Times that Nelson claimed the marijuana was his. The singer was held briefly a $2,500 bond before being released.

Nelson spokeswoman Elaine Schock declined to comment when contacted via e-mail by The Associated Press.

6 itty-bitty ounces....from a fellow who has poured in millions of $$ for Farm Aid.....Oh well...it's illegal....but think a "warning" would have been sufficient.

I agree. I mean, give the guy a break. But, ever since he's gotten in trouble with the Government for not paying taxes (btw, he gave back every penny of what he withheld), they've been on him like white on rice.

It's a shame, but, oh well!
 
Willie Nelson and weed...those two have been interlinked for so long so the big shocker here is that it made the news.

He doesn't exactly keep it a secret; after all, he has a State to support!
 
It would be newsworthy if the headline had been "Pot NOT found on Willie Nelson's tour bus." :lol:

:rofl: I can see it now. Helicopters circling the tour bus, hundreds of police vehicles on the ground, news crews everywhere, drug sniffing dogs all coming up empty handed. Yes that would be newsworthy.
