why is mobile phone use banned in petrol (gas) station

Not know, never happen to me in my life. *shrugs*

I figured out about what kokonut saying that you have to touch car first before touch the nozzle.

which is why I asked a hypothetical question, silly.

If it does happen to me so it is more likely to not do again.

Also, I wasn't aware of static issue until few days ago after I read here.

:Ohno:

I usually fill at Chevron and Texaco so they have no rules for not use cell phone or sit in car while filling the gas, there is two rules are no smoking and turn engine off.

Even, I never learn from my parent and my mother usually sit in car while filling the gas after lock switch became common in late 90's.

Also, without lock switch, especially in some Chevron stations so I have stand and filling the gas with my hand on nozzle.

More gas stations are removing the lock switch function to get people to actually attend to the their pump while filling up.

I have never seen an attendant come out into the pump area to talk and check on customers. They all stay behind the counter in the store in case they need to shut the pump off from the inside. They will never come out if it is a pre-pay station where they must turn on the pumps from the inside.

The only time an attendant comes out is if they are not busy and they are checking the trash bins and/or picking up trash around the pump area.

same. Since I ride, I don't use credit card. That way - I save a couple bucks. I try to top it off to either .00 cent or in denominator of 25 cents. I carry some quarters in my bike bag.
I use my debit card, so it's the same as cash. It's easier to pay at the pump. I don't like to go inside the stores, and have to wait behind people buying lottery tickets.

Same here, I dislike going inside the stores.

I missed speedpass. It's pretty quick than debit card. I just it as key chain right next to auto key. Just touch it to gas pump's wall till light on then fill a gas to up fill finish then push button "yes or no" for print recipe. It take me under 1 min for 14 gals with speedpass. It is perfect for heavy travel like almost 100 miles a day at old times. Debit card gave me a problem with machine's LCD at winter. That's mean outside was under 10F then LCD become fade out and I can't read anything at all. I was not sure when I am going to type a pin or when I will push a start, etc. Speedpass is perfect but sad, my area do not have Mobil. Only near Chicago area.

not a problem for me since it's full-service in here

but they let me fill it up on my bike and then they come back after I'm done with it. but I know what you mean when I traveled out of state.

Thanks but I don't want to add anything to my key ring. I have a house key, car key, mini flashlight, and pepper spray on my key ring. That's enough for me. It also doesn't often get as cold at our pumps.

If your pumps are full service, then I guess you don't need to worry about a driver using a cell phone or sliding in and out of the vehicle seats.
