Bladder Cancer Survivor Says Tough Pat-Down Caused Bag To Spill

ROMULUS, Mich. -- A bladder cancer survivor from Michigan who wears a bag that collects his urine says he was patted down roughly by a security agent at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, causing the bag to spill its contents on his clothing.

Tom Sawyer told MSNBC.com the experience earlier this month left the 61-year-old retired special education teacher humiliated and in tears before catching a flight to Orlando, Fla.

Transportation Security Administration chief John Pistole said on CBS' "The Early Show" on Monday he had "great concern" for people such as Sawyer who feel "like they have not been treated properly."

Sawyer tells the Detroit Free Press that once he went through security, he changed his bag, but didn't have time to change his clothing and had to board the plane soaked in urine.

That's sad. People with sadistic tendencies tend to take those jobs where they have compliant victims.

Oh wow, that's terrible.

What next? TSA may make passenger's colostomy bag to spill and clothes will be infected with e. coli on fly.

Maybe it was bad Karma for the whole fence thing.......

I wonder if a class action lawsuit against the TSA would happen or be possible?

It's possible to have a class action lawsuit against TSA because the series of this happening is quite frequent. It's demeaning to the human body and it's been happening in the public area which causes extreme embarrassment.

I wouldn't be surprised if TSA settles this with money.

I know that winning against the govt is very hard but why do think it'll fail?

Probably because it is hard to disprove a defense that they thought he was stealing a bag of rotten fruit.

Next thing they'll want to have parents take the babies' diapers off to make sure there's no stinkin' bombs present.

That s awful. He should show medical ID to TSA agent.

They do have to look inside monkey diapers. (True!)

If a baby sets off the alarm, I guess they might have to look inside that diaper, too.

That wouldn't prevent a pat down. However, it's supposed to cause the agent to be more careful doing the pat down. That's what the TSA site says.

Wow! I learned something new from you today, thanks Auntie. :ty:

I haven't flown in a few years.
