Through the years, I've suffered with this, some times are worse than others, lasting a day or more, feeling "light-headed", etc.

A stranger to ear surgery, I'm not, and will be undergoing another one in a month or so, for Cholesteatoma.

Was thinking that I needed to cut back on my driving! And I have. Since I never know when an attack might come up. Whenever I have an attack, I can't see, can't lipread and can't hear, either.....

So, I went to the JTA Connection. To apply for rides to and from doctor visits, etc. This service is basically for wheelchair bound people. And I believe, funded via the Easter Seals.

Went thru a battery of "tests" they gave, such as walking several blocks, being able to "step up" onto the bus, etc. I passed all of those. Even tho' at times I would "stagger" off and on...(almost fell into the bushes, and the test giver and I laughed about it).

After 2 weeks, got a letter notifying me that I was denied, even tho' I expained my situation, and the danger that I might be to others on the road if an attack came.....and since I'm the only licensed driver in my family, and most of my doctors are on the others side of town, 20 miles or so....a cab would cost up to $35.00 or more, just one way. Catching a city bus, would mean changing several buses, etc., which I've never rode a city bus in my life.

I'm thinking of asking my doctor to write a letter to see if that might help. Any suggestions? Anyone else have these problems?

doc note

Of course get the doctors note. Maybe even get his office to call the bus service. Maybe also look into your VR office

If you have medicaid, you can also look into transportation services through them. They will only transport to medical appts, but, that may be something to consider as well!

Good luck!

I'm sorry that getting services you need have been difficult. Have you had any luck with this yet? Please keep us updated...this is something I had never thought of before, and you bring some really good points. I'd like to brainstorm and maybe come up with some ideas...hmm.

sure!...My doctor's appt. is Dec. 4th, and I will discuss this with him and get his feedback. I also have 90 days to appeal the decision from the JTA.

Three words:

Repeal the decision!

Good luck, Robin! Keep us in the loop about what happens. :)

I had really bad dizziness symptoms in the first month after I got my CI surgery. I would sit down or lie down and almost immediately the world would start spinning around me. It was disorienting to say the least.

I would definitely have a doctor check it out. My dizzy spells stopped when I saw one. She did some physical therapy-type actions, positioning my head and such. It really activated the dizziness during that appointment, but after that it pretty much stopped!
