Barbara Bush put dead fetus in jar

If the fetus is a baby brother or sister, that could be upsetting to a sibling.

If the fetus is a lump of tissue, then there's no reason to be upset about it. It's no worse than a jar of kidney stones.

Right?

Right. That's the way it is. Always been.

Let me make an analogy. You have a pet dog and I kill him for fun. Will you be upset? Naturally. If I kill a strange dog that's attacking my pet, would you be upset about the strange dog?

Now, with a fetus, if it's not related to you, you may be less emotional about it because you know it's NOT related to you but if you know that the fetus is related to you by sibling, it's a different story.

You can observe the same in animal kingdom - relatives tend to bond together while they kill strangers, even within the same species.

Right?

Not necessarily. It depends on the child Anything gross might be upsetting to a child. I doubt a young child would get the ethical implications you're implying here, but a teenager certainly would. What you're saying here depends on a lot of factors coming into play. Age of the child; emotional makeup of the child in question, ect.

well im sure you've seen pictures or videos of human fetuses, aborted or not?

I've seen quite a few pics of dead fetus but I would never show the fetus to my child even if he's a teen. Showing the dead fetus of your child's sibling is just ... disturbed.

I've seen pictures as well.

Honestly, do you all feel repulsed when you take life of any form away? Yet at the same time, you know it just has to be done?

No.

I don't know if I would use the word "repulsed". I would have strong feelings about it, though.

So you don't feel bad about animals you eat and the lives you've run over with car or your feet and the lives that must be ended because you want to stop their suffering and if you have an abortion, that you take away life?

Every life I take away, I feel bad but I know it's just part of nature. I guess it's just the way I am.

Ok, I used it wrongly. More like the "i feel bad about it... but it just has to happen" emotion. What's the right word?

There you go.

My family used to slaughter their own animals (cattle, turkey et cetera); we used to fish and hunted for food; we had hounds; we own a rat-catcher slash birder (dog, not cat); used to have a snake (one out of twenty) that refused to eat frozen-thawed rodents-- only live; had a friend's snake who would only take freshly-killed rodents for dinner; had to put down an animal due to health complications.

So, no, it doesn't bother me.

Or maybe you haven't been conditioned to accepting death.

I would say that it does bother me. We had chickens and other animals as well. Some of which, my Dad slaughtered. I could never be around when he did it. It just bothers me to be up close and personal with all the gory details. Now having said that, do I eat chicken for dinner? Definitely. I'm an omnivore. I'm also pro choice.

I think what Netrox is getting at is the feelings behind ethical decisions like this. Just because it's necessary doesn't mean it doesn't affect us. Some people, though, simply are cold and it wouldn't affect them no matter what.

Those people are frightening. Just to be clear, I don't think that of you.

Ah, as in the kids who grow up to be serial killers?

Yeah, I got mad at a neighbourhood kid for killing a bee when I was or eight. It was unnecessary in my mind at the time. Now I understand people do it out of irrational fear.

Not once? Dear, my cats hate when I save cute bunnies from their jaws of death. LOL

Not if there's a reason for it. I know why these things are done.

Now if it's done for no apparent reason or out of selfishness, yes; or an accident: I've gotten mad at my ferret for killing a tegu (an accident on my part) and I've gotten mad at someone only taking the head of a deer (wasteful use of life.)

Gary Larson would find this fascinating.

It just someone hate you because you can't clean kitchen. That's something we don't agree.

However, Barbara Bush isn't only person who put dead fetus in jar. She is one of few thousand, maybe less or over million out there.

Haha.. imagine that.

"Oh look, wow this is what our intestines look like... wow this is what our circulatory system looks like... this is so cool, mom! Thanks for taking me!"

"Oh yea by the way, that guy cut in half over there? yea that's your dad. Forgot to tell you that he donated his life to science."
