It has a different economy, that's why. Most of the growth in Des Moines is from internal/international migration while Omaha from national/international migration. Lot of people in Iowa are moving from the rural areas to major areas in Iowa which is why lot of rural counties are losing population as a result.

Also can you explain to me why theres more billionaires per capita in Omaha than anywhere in the USA?
 
Which skyline do you like the best?

Omaha or Des Moines? In my opinion, Des Moines. It looks more dense and has some nice buildings. Omaha needs more skyscrapers.

I have no idea about that one. I never knew lot of billioniares live in Omaha. Why didn't they bother building nice skyscrapers and nicer downtown? I know they redeveloped one area but needs more. :)

o.O FNB building taller than any buildings in Detroit.... That Union Pacific building is nice. I used to have my lunches there.

How about that condo building going up now? :)

OHHH and you can find wild jellyfishes in Omaha.

Kiewit Foundation has been at it. They've been remodeling the downtown area/airport area.

Kiewit is very closed related to Buffett... Heck Berkshire Hathaway is in their building.. on Farnam..

SPeaking of the Farnam Berkshire Hathaway area... I wonder how that Dundee project is going. It looked like a nice project.

Yes, Union Pacific building is sweet. Yea, a lone tall skyscraper sticking out of Omaha's skyline which makes it look like a loner. :lol: That's why they need to build some more if they bring more jobs to downtown area.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I haven't looked all of Omaha downtown and missed some areas but it's a start. :) Omaha Zoo rocks by the way!

That is a bad idea. That's why they're building bigger buildings down Dodge in West Omaha. Lessen traffic. You ever see the winter traffic on Dodge.. My god.

Yep, that zoo is one of my favorite zoos out there. Amazing place. Tucked away too.

A deaf dude owns a house right in front of the elephant pen. Pretty cool drinking and seeing elephants and peacocks.

That's what rail transit is for. :) More density=less sprawl and less pollution of cars. That's smart growth system.

Wow, I didn't know that. Yeah, I saw some houses in sight from the elephant's home, which is like a free view. :lol:

That would be like a second downtown area of Omaha. They could link rail transit between that area and they can go both ways...downtown and to Dodge.

The funny thing is that Omaha doesn't have many suburbs and Omaha is one huge blob on the map. It's about the size of Portland in square miles.
