strong argument for increasing retirement age

This is one of my biggest reasons for increasing the age for retirement - we need to increase the age for the sake of public health!

It's just a few out of several studies finding the same result. Early retirement increases the risk of early death.

Sounds like one more reason to encourage people to be more active during their leisure time rather than working longer.

Alright now that I stopped laughing... I have a few questions.....

Netrox - can you show me when you came up with the idea of working more to "keep healthy" especially when you sit for a job?
 
I'm not favor for increase of retirement age.

I believe that people can have retirement in earlier age, long as they are well prepare on retirement, such as pay enough in 401k or retirement accounting and they are able to afford to spend on their life during retirement. Of course, they won't get SS until they turn in 65.

Actually, we should just eliminate retirement all together.

Retirement is really a bad concept and only enforces that the old should not work anymore and it actually worsens their health. They should work til they drop dead.
 
Guess that depends on how you want to spend your "golden years". I wanted to play a boatload of golf. I will trade a few years off the back end changing the tennis balls on my walker and eating jello for that.
 
"Retirement" is not synonymous with "not keeping active." I hope that I can retire early so that I can be MORE active than I am when I was working.

Agreed.

I like to exercise so often, have a fun with families, more thing to do, such as traveling and tour around the world.

My Grandmother never stopped laboring and lived to be 100 years old.

Beat that!

My MIL has an Uncle who still works daily in his orange groves and his vegetable garden. He's 105.
 
I don't expect to retire before age 70. Even then, it probably won't be a full retirement. :)
 
As long as the economy sucks, a bunch of us are already semi-retired. :wave:
