Yes, from all mammals:Isn't colostrum the first part of breast milk ?![]()
Colostrum Immune System Boost with bovine colostrum for improved immune responseColostrum is only available during the first hours after calving which is why supplies are still very limited. And when you consider colostrum should be taken from only cows that are free of antibiotics, pesticides and synthetic hormones, supplies of the highest-quality colostrum are even more limited.

The problem is, one of the meds I take daily for hives is Prednisone, a steroid. Because of that, I have a weakened immune system. I'm a mess.Ok. Now if this relates to the mineral boost thread and hives, this would be very wrong to take if it works.
Hives mean your immune system already works too well.

Used the Aveeno for years; very minimal short-term relief.Reba,
See your other thread. I made a suggestion for you. I also wanted to add, you could try applying topical oatmeal to the affected area? That may help you get relief, maybe? Aveeno makes a good oatmeal product for application.
for the suggestions though.I hope you solve this! I understand how you're feeling about the prednisone. It can wreck havoc on the body as a whole!![]()

Oh, Reba. I feel for you. I wish there was something you could do for this! I am usually very pro-Western medicine, but I feel just as frustrated as you must be. I sincerely hope you find something that works for you. My only suggestion is be extremely careful about the homeopathic remedies you try (per my other caution). You could try seeing a naturopath, who will most likely put you on vitamins and minerals; which will boost your immune system. I'm not sure what will help the hives, though. I'm sorry.![]()
Steroids?
Good grief. I just read that you have been on it for a couple years. You have to be extremely cautious once you go off the steroids. It seems highly irresponsible of the doctor to keep you on it for that long.
Are you aware that you cannot quit steroids cold turkey? It has to be done by reduced dosage on a weekly basis. Otherwise, you could... well... you know.
That's true. I don't know exactly what the weaning process would be, but you're absolutely right about this, Banjo. One must wean from prednisone and not just stop it cold turkey.
Prednisone is a very useful med for many indications, but it's also quite a nasty drug that one must be careful of.
Yes, homepathic remedies need to be taken with great caution and should be consented with the physician/specialist first. Especially when the patient is on steroids to start with.
Exactly, it can be an useful medication. However, it's always used as a last resort because of the side effects, the ramifications it can have on one's health.
Scary, I know.
Don't steroids put you at high risk for osteoporosis? You might want to consider a bone density test? My grandma has osteoporosis bad because she took cortisone for years. It was sad.

Steroids can wreck havoc on the body in a lot of ways.
Yep. Although I'm told there is a way to prevent or reduce the chances of steroid-induced osteoporosis by taking in more calcium and phosphate. They say it's preventable these days provided that people are told about it.
