If you won a Mega Millions Lottery....

Wirelessly posted

If I won the mega millions lottery definitely keep it private. I like the idea of telling people I am living off disability or worker's comp.

id keep it private , hell id quietly erase my sister's mortgage saying nothing then go on a 5 years big world trips...pretending its a working holiday say in England where everyone would believe it

then come home upon before I settle, just sell house and move somewhere else, to a nice big secluded house and have that big workshops or 3. one for art, one for restoring some old car/bikes and one for making, furnititures..
and just live that 'dream do and know everything in the old world' as a hobby , i like the forgotten stuffs... id pursue it with passion because I would then can afford it

Just be honest... say you retired early because your investments paid off.

People will figure out you're not on disability when they see you being able to afford things that those on welfare cannot.

My roommate used to think I was on welfare until she noticed the bills didn't add up... I wouldn't be able to afford those bills if I was on welfare.

I'd keep quiet. Figure out how much to give to those who need it. Plus I get something like this for myself.

I think I would secretly share all money with people I like, or with people I care. Don't need much myself. If have too much money, then everything you do became meaningless. Difficult to think such like of things. Scary

what a waste. just saying.

and.... isn't this ironical? recall one who kept criticizing about Al Gore's house's carbon footprint? and what's this I'm seeing?

lolity.

families & close friends only -- they have helped me in past. I like to pay back double what I borrowed, especially those donated, as 'thank you' because I only ask when in despair. would need to tell them I won otherwise they'll absolutely refuse my offer for living on low budget. :aw:

First of all, I will change my phone number before I tell my family. All the lottery winners in Canada must come out in public so that is why I change my phone number in order to prevent being begged and asked for money from the public.

Eh, I wouldn't flaunt it, but I wouldn't keep it a secret from everyone. Wouldn't want my name in the paper or anything, but I would tell my friends and family because I'd probably spend a lot on them anyway. I wouldn't be afraid to tell random people or people I didn't like to piss off if they'd try and hit me up for money. Maybe the rest of you are just insecure about that? :dunno:

Have you read about the horror stories to what happened to some of those mega powerball winners with that issue? Threats, harrassment and etc...not for me.

I wouldn't tell anybody... I no longer trust people when it comes to money!

I'd keep it private, but I'd tell my closest family members. :)

Hmm, no, I haven't. Were the threats and harassment coming from family members and friends? I don't think I know anyone who would be like that to me, but if I did, I'd certainly keep it secret from them... and maybe ask Jiro for advice on buying a gun! :eek3:

On the subject of people with money, JP Getty was a very wealthy man when I was a kid.

His grandson was kidnapped for ransom, and Getty told them no.

They sent him the ear of his grandson. I believe he did end up paying.

The grandson was never ok again and had lots of drug problems, etc.

I don't know what finally happened to him.

Keeping your win secret would probably be a good idea. :eek3:

In general, you can't keep your lotto winnings a secret. They are required to publish your information once you claim your winnings.

Also, don't forget to rent a safe deposit box at your local bank to store your lottery ticket prior to claiming it!
