Federal ban on gay men's blood donation to be reconsidered

Depends.......too many factors and you have already mucked the thread up too much to make sense of it. I will answer by saying that in matters of life and death put me down for the lower statistical risk.

It was easy enough for you to answer the first Las Vegas-Boise hypothetical question and now not easy for you to answer the second LV-Boise hypothetical question?

:hmm:

Look at the estimated per act risk

Receptive oral intercourse*§ 1†b[35]
Insertive oral intercourse*§ 0.5†b[35]

remember this is based on exposure to HIV positive person. The odds is ZERO if the person doesn't have HIV. You normally have to have repeated exposure to HIV to get infected. I know it sounds odd but it's the way it is. Why do some get HIV on the first try? Like I said - genetics, malnutrition and open sores.

The one with less statistical risk.....easy

so assuming that LV blood bank has less statistical risk despite of the fact that it's a dirty sinful promiscuous city... you'd take it?

I would take the blood bank with the least stastical risk..it is my life at risk after all.

Question has been answered. You trolling again???

So is it safe for me to assume that you'd accept blood from LV Blood Bank that has less statistical risk than Boise (hypothetically of course)?

you do realize that your answer to 2nd hypothetical question contradicted with your answer to 1st hypothetical question?

1st hypothetical question - you're going by perceived risk
2nd hypothetical question - now you're going by actual risk since you'd take the one with least statistical risk

Nope......I explained and corrected my use of the word "perceived". My answer is statistical risk for all three scenarios.

Keep On Trolling :)

Yes, perceived risk versus statistical risk are two very different things. You're right, TXgolfer.

:gpost: In my opinion, everyone is a risk to me...gay, straight, black, white...

Looks like I'm a risk to you too! With all the phobia, I've got to be infected. Stay away from me!

100% accuracy? cannot take a risk? let's see.... Las Vegas.... a very sinful promiscuous city... would you take blood transfusion from Las Vegas blood bank?

If you could choose blood from Las Vegas or blood from Boise which would you pick?????

you can't really get to pick one. When you need blood transfusion - it's because you are on the verge of death.

But say you could......Which would you pick.

Either one. All blood bags get transported around depending on demand.

*faceplam* nobody thinks you actually get that choice. It's a hypothetical.

See in this case.....given what Jiro said about Las Vegas.....I pick the blood from Boise. Why? Less risk given the examples. Jiro on the other hand has said he would take either.

I enjoy life too much. WHEN given a choice like this I would always choose the LEAST risk. Even if we are just talking about .01% vs. .011%

My last post was unclear because I used the word perceived and shouldn't have....I corrected that and brought attention to the correction a few posts later, ...However the numbers WERE in the original post. Again.talking about stats. You were wrong here and you were wrong in accusing me of stating risks with saliva and swimming pools.

actually - it's Perceived Risk (Inductive Reasoning) vs. Actual Risk (Deductive Reasoning)

Both uses statistics to make risk analysis but the difference is... in Perceived Risk, one makes decision based on one's emotion & reasoning while in Actual Risk, one uses scientific data and logic.

You were wrong here and you were wrong in accusing me of stating risks with saliva and swimming pools.

1. I used "ya'all" so it's not specifically you
2. you missed this post -

Your perceived risk is the same perceived risk as other swimmers where he bled in the pool. and the basketball players & Magic Johnson.
