GOP Blocks Oil Spill Liability Bill - again

I would certainly agree that a massive oil spill would cause more ecological damage than a hurricane; after all, a hurricane is weather. Certainly a solid statement here. No argument from me. :eek3:

Good. Also, people sometimes don't realize the fact that Hurricane Katrina also damaged local oil pipelines, tanks, refineries, etc in that caused a leak of at least 8 millon gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico and coastal waterways and marshes.

It took BP 36 days to finally put the plug on the massive oil leak located 5000 feet below on the ocean floor. Not bad when you compare that to Ixtoc oil spill in 1979 in the Gulf of Mexico and spilled 140 million gallons (or so they say, could be much higher) of oil over 270 days (9 months) until it was finally capped. The Ixtox well was located 150 feet below the sea surface compared to BP's work at capping the oil leak at 5000 feet below the sea surface.

It is still unacceptable, regardless on how bad is oil spill and it is worse than 1989 Exxon Valdez.

After 20 years of 1989 Exxon Valdez, many fishermen in AK coastal that where oil spill occurred in 1989 are still face difficult and struggle to catch it up with fishing. Jiro did posted a link in two weeks ago.

The fishermen in Louisiana will be suffered so hard time after oil spill for very very long time.

Nice info, that's pretty interesting from how you know about all this.
Should put your geophysics degree to some use, man. :cool2:
Go help those engineers who are addressing the situation. The BP corps handling the situation and green earth societies around there could always use more good samaritan manpower. :thumb:

Understand the difference between Exxon Valdez' oil and BP's oil. The Exxon Valdez oil was heavy oil, thick and viscous. The really black, sticky stuff and tend to stick around a lot longer and have a greater impact on wildlife and the ecosystem. As for BP, it's oil is lighter. Brown in color. And is more volatile but has more chemicals which could harm wildlife and the ecosystem.

interesting. so right now... to this date.. which one is more devastating? Exxon-Valdez spill or BP leak?

The "political stupidity is unbelievable," Democratic strategist James Carville said on "Good Morning America" today. "The president doesn't get down here in the middle of this. ... I have no idea of why they didn't seize this thing. I have no idea of why their attitude was so hands off here."

On Thursday, Obama will announce new measures the federal government will take to try to prevent any future BP oil spills, administration officials said. And on Friday, the president will visit the Gulf coast, his second trip to the region since the environmental disaster happened last month.

But Carville said the Obama administration's response to the BP oil spill has been "lackadaisical," and that rather than place the blame on the previous administration, it should've done more to deal with BP and "inept bureaucrats," which would've in turn helped boost Obama's approval ratings.

"The president of the United States could've come down here, he could've been involved with the families of these 11 people" who died on the offshore rig, Carville said. "He could've demanded a plan in anticipation of this."

lot of quibbling these days...

Less Talk, More Action. do these quibblers have any solutions to offer?

Chris loses his thrilling, tingly feeling in his legs.

MSNBC's Chris Matthews: "I don't see a chain of command. I don't sense it's wartime conditions. All through this time, I have sensed this president has been chief executive and if I hear one more time that Secretary Chu has a Novel prize, I'm going to barf. I don't care. This sense of idiotic cerebral meritocracy has got to step aside and let the people who do things take over and that means command as commander in chief, that is my belief and he hasn't done it."

That's the way to go.

"Daddy, did you plug the hole yet?"

No, sweety. He didn't. BP did. Daddy was busy playing golf.

Cool Story Bro.

He took the time to address over the concerns the people have over the oil spill. Now he's said it maybe he will act on it? What's up with the indirect malice, bro, you got a vendetta on the president or something?

How is he supposed to please you people if you look in criticism for everything he does? He might as well do nothing so you can't criticize on his efforts.

I'd say that's a vague if not a personal threat of somekind.

Haven't ever watched Commando? It's a punchline. Seriously, where's your sense of humor, if you can accept the cat beheading, this is nothing.

Post reported.

Fair game. I'd like to take the opportunity to inform you are an extremely sensitive snowflake/butterfly and now there's one less person to care about your rants.

You were talking about sensitivity the other day, look at you, jeez, this is a movie line and it's affecting you .
I guess I'd better not talk like the terminator or else you might get offended.

Then make it clear next time. Not everyone know all popular quotes from all movies. Secondly, I don't even know you yet I keep seeing these particular "comments" coming from you lately that raises my red flags. What am to think? We're not even friends or buddies so how am I supposed to read you or know how you'd behave?
