If this legislation is truly worthy on its own merits, what's the big rush?

It would be better for the members of Congress to spend the day (Sunday) in prayer and fasting, and then cast their votes tomorrow (Monday). I don't see how the Lord will bless this government action occuring on His day.

The big rush is to get it passed so that it can be enacted so the millions of people currently suffering the ill effects of no health care reform will no longer be suffering such.

No, that premise doesn't fail. It is the premise that has insured that for-profit insurance companies have stayed in business.

I see. So you are hoping for passage simply because you wish to see failure. How humanitarian of you.

Premise doesn't fail??? :hmm:

Third, the program is not affordable for many individuals and families. For middle-income people not qualifying for state-subsidized health insurance, costs are too high for even skimpy coverage. For an individual earning $31,213, the cheapest plan can cost $9,872 in premiums and out-of-pocket payments. Low-income residents, previously eligible for free care, have insurance policies requiring unaffordable copayments for office visits and medications.
Fourth, the costs of the reform for the state have been formidable. Spending for the Commonwealth Care subsidized program has doubled, from $630 million in 2007 to an estimated $1.3 billion for 2009, which is not sustainable

Even though most of the plan doesn't take effect until 2014?

Chances are between the SC, 2010 elections and 2012 elections it will never take effect anyway. No worries yet

I never said premises don't fail. I said this one hasn't. Pre-existing exclusionary clauses and moderation of risk by combining high risk with low risk into the same group has allowed insurance companies to continue with a huge profit margin and provides those million + dollar bonuses for the CEOs. All the while, people are denied coverage that have paid into their policy for years.

And the longer it takes to get passed, the more the date of institution will be pushed back. One does not institute wide spread change over night. It takes time.

I think with a 4 year cushion they could wait a day without pushing back the start day

Ah but by requiring that pre existing conditions be covered the pool becomes flooded with a new infusion of high risk. Then add the removal of lifetime caps....Sorry but costs will not go down just like they didn't go down in MA. Costs actually rose

You are incorrect in that assumption. It would serve to lower actual medical costs. What it would affect negatively is the profit margin of the insurance company.

From your own religious perspective perhaps, but that cannot be applied to everyone as everyone does not subscribe to your particular belief system.

One day will make a difference? It won't even take effect for several years.

So how about one day for quiet reflection on what they're doing?

Again, all this "hurry" seems questionable.

Yeah because there is no way insurance companies will raise rates...It has already been done in MA....History will repeat itself....If the bill passes. That's my prediction.

Clinton tried that more than a decade ago.

Enough is enough. It's time for NOW.

One day leads to two days leads to three days. Why a delay at all when it isn't necessary?

It's not a delay. Sundays are not normal Congressional work days. It wouldn't be a delay. It would be following the normal work schedule.

What are they afraid of? :hmm:

The Sunday news and the calls that would follow.....Politicians always fear the Sunday news...

Looks as though it will pass Stupak is a yes now. He said Obama promised to issue an executive order banning Federally funded abortion. Record 3:15 as the time on Obama's broken promises clock. In the real world at least one congressman would change his vote to No now because he wanted abortions paid for......I am sure Obama told them not to worry, he won't actually follow through. Just trying to get the votes.

:hmm: House Dems were giddy Friday because they had the votes. Wonder why they have delayed the vote 2 1/2 hours so far today and are still making deals like the Stupak promise.
