Hard to say without history. Just cause she looks thin doesn't mean she was abused. Could be illness or etc. Would need more Information first.
 
yes I agree, if there's no medical condition that ruled out, then it is likely abuse assuming this horse is supposedly under care of the owner and not one of those horse that was found wandering around.

what about her mother? is she providing milk? who or what is preventing milk from this foal?

then again, how fat a horse suppose to look?

My cat had cancer in her intestine, or that's what the vet thinks, plus thyroid problems. She kept losing weight and vomiting. The vet told me if she lot any more weight, she'll be dead. Because she is so skinny. We though the thyroid was the problem, and I tried treatment for her, but she still kept vomiting ... They told me that they could do cancer treatment for her, and I told them, no, my mother had cancer treatment, and it was very hard on her. so we had to put her to sleep.
 
It's abuse if that horse has an owner. Horses are not supposed to be so thin. The owner should be making sure the foal is fed enough.:)
 
It would help if you put a word of warning or *trigger* on the thread title next time.

Some people are very sensitive to abuse- human and animal.
 
it's hard to tell from the picture. If i were there, i would have checked around there. where I live here, 20 minutes from my home, there are lots of farms and barns.. sometimes people have guts to drive into the long dirty path and check on those anaimlas to make sure they are okay. like the past there were made to report that they found some starved anamals and have someone else to feed them and adopt them. That is not the first time. thats too common. =(
 
First thing it came on my mind when I saw the picture was yes,yes,yes, this is abuse. But they are right, what if foal is sick? Well, foal should not been outside. It should be sending to VET right away.
 
You can notify your local humane society and let them determine if the animal is being abused.
 
The Horse certainly looks underfed, you can see the ribs and hind-quarters...did you mean "bought" and not "brought" the horse "UNSEEN"??

Get in touch with the ASPCA, animal society ASAP!

Why would you buy a horse "unseen"?

This appears to be a sick horse to me....The eyes and head give it the appearance of being sick. Hungry horses are usually aggressive even mean in the pressence of people.

Many factors too. How far was the horse transported, What month was this? Feeds change by month and horses tend to gain and lose weight during the year. Obviously this is too thin.

Even if the horse was underfed abuse might be too strong of a word in this economy. Did the previous owner go broke? If they did and were trying to sell because they could no longer feed it that might be understandable. Could be that the owner was heartbroken that they could no longer care for the horse.

But based on the pic I am sticking with sick horse

18 hours with hay and water this month

we are starting her on broodmare hardfeed today. farrier is coming today and all we no is she a standardbred because shes been raced
 
"she's lovely" would seem to indicate sick rather than starved. Starved animals NORMALLY become mean or aggressive. Not to say they won't come around when properly fed again .......But it's hard to say.

I hope she heals up no matter what the cause is.
