router issues

Heh. I've dealt with D-Link's DIR-615. I've dealt with the D-Link DIR-615, Rev. B and Rev. C1 hardware versions.

I had a similar problem with my netbook and same router. It took me a couple of long phone calls with D-Link tech support to get it resolved. Eventually had to remove previous wireless network and set up a new one.

Did you trying resetting your router by pulling the power plug for at least 30 seconds, then plugging back in? That's the simple first try.

Did you download latest firmware update for the router?

That doesn't reset it. That just powers it off and restarts it.

There should be a reset button right besides one of the antennas, typically right besides the power plug port.

I think that better get another AT&T 2wire wireless modem bulit-in router. no need D-Link or netgear router.

I'm sorry, but I've got to respond to that: Fuck AT&T's 2Wire modem/router configs. They do NOT bridge properly. Nor do they handle security well. NOR do they handle port-forwarding very well. They are absolute shit. If I ever go with AT&T, I'll happily insist on a modem only. NOT a modem/router. The AT&T 2Wires are well known for causing LOTS of problems. :/

KristinaB,

Since you have the C1 version, if you'd like, I can offer to help you by remoting into your computer and seeing exactly what settings you've got it at.

(I've helped a friend of mine who had the C1 version. Man, it has things my B2 doesn't...)

But anyways, you'd probably want to have someone eye-ball it, and well... I'm here to offer that sort of help, as I've done tech support over the internet for several years now.

From what you've said: Now, when I try to connect the netbook to the network for internet, it says it cannot validate the certificate. I am using a password protected status as we do not have trustworthy neighbors. Now, I can't even remember the password. I tried to remove the network from the netbook and start all over, but it keeps popping back up with the network there.

It sounds like you've enabled the CAPTCHA feature. If I'm wrong, please correct me, but if you don't know how to get back in, then the only way is to reset it, unfortunately.

Of course, I can show you how to configure it, if you'd like via Remote Desktop or Teamviewer. (Preferably Teamviewer, due to its security setup.)

It has not been resolved as of yet and now the battery has died and my charging cale shorted out. I have ordered a new on and am waiting for it to be delivered within the next 2 weeks.

I will try to reset and go from there. I have now had 3 people ask to help me by going remote and I will see about that. One of them I know pretty well, just never met him in person.

Will update as soon as I get the netbook charged.

I know that AT&T 2Wire modem/router is big problem. Speedstream modem and D-Link/Sorenson router is better.

You said about D-Link DIR-615 B1 and C1. B1 is better than C1 but B1 routers are out of stock.

I had heard about Sorenson router sucks if you are P2P or torrent users.

I know about it. Sorenson non-wireless router is cheap and awful. I always replaced wireless D-Link router for customers.

Thanks!! When I get the netbook charged, I will do that for sure. (having problems spelling definately at times) :giggle:

Or can I reset it and have it ready for the netbook when it gets charged. Or is that just putting the cart before the horse?

If you can get to it from your desktop, then I'd say go for it.

Just remember to secure the wireless and leave the rest at defaults.

Though what ISP do you have?

Edit: Might not want to leave it at defaults. However, what're you using to get connected? What modem do you have? (Aside from the router, that is.)

I have AT&T high speed and use a Motorola modem they provided. Have used this modem with the AT&T since we moved here in June 2009 with no problems. Right now, it's going through router and I have no problems. The wireless worked at one point, but the telephone had been shut off then turned bak on in the same day and it reset everything and then my wireless did not work, but with my desktop I can still get onto internet (obviously).

You shouldn't have an issue then. Simply set it as DHCP and you should be good to go, since the modem's doing all the work for you.

Feel free to reset and reconfigure.

sounds like you guys are on the right track, if you change or forget the ip address go to your command prompt and type ipconfig /all....then look at the default gateway

I reconfigured my wireless router recently to allow my daughters nintendo dsi to get on the internet

I also manage a watchguard x750 firebox firewall at work, that thing is a beast.

Okay - I don't know how to do multiple quotes, but, I can copy and paste. :giggle:

reset the box

open internet browser

192.168.0.1 for all D-Link router is correct
Username: admin
Password: (blank)

reconfigure the router

I have now done this and now need to wait until I get my charging cable for the netbook to work on it from that end after I get it charged.

I want to thank Jiro, Chevy57, Keiro, bogle300, and any others I may have forgotten for their help. Now it is just a wait and see for a week or so.

Awesome! Glad to hear that you connected right after reconfiguring the router! :D

Let us know what happens when the netbook's recharged, please, would you?

Don't forget to configure PPPoE for your DSL to add your AT&T email and password before apply it.

Modem already handles that. >_>

No need to do that for the router.

Besides, she simply resetted the router and didn't need to make any configurations beyond the defaults. (I'm assuming here, from what she's said.)

Modem took care of that. I called AT&T to verify and they said that what I have going is correct. They don't think I should have any problems unless I set something wrong on the netbook.

Got the charging cable in the mail late today. the netbook is being charged and then tomorrow when I am feeling more rested, I will attempt to do the steps I got from another friend to find out why I can't connect it to the router for wireless internet. I will let you know what I come up with.
