Guess what came in the mail today........ (Dixie's Vegemite Thread)

Awesome I have watched your video!! :thumb:

However, what hell is vegemite? Sorry I didn't read the whole this thread!

Wonder It is same with my favorite "Nutella"?

:)

:ty: Phillips!

Vegemite is a paste made from brewers yeast (the stuff they make beer with), some odds and ends such as onions, garlic, and salt. It's non-alcoholic and vegetarian friendly, but it's the yeast extract from making beer. For us Americans I would say that it's good and just a little bit of it on your toast goes a long way. They say that there is a weaker British version of this stuff called "Marmite".

It's not the same as nutella, it's nothing like nutella. Nutella is more like a Hazelnut Butter, Vegemite is a strong flavored paste you put on your toast.

Dixie, Awesome for your vlog of showing vegemite. I never taste it yet.

Will US custom allow JClarke to bring some vegemite to enter USA?

Jiro, Why don't you like it?

US Customs should let Jake in with the tube of Vegemite but he can't bring in an entire tub of it.

If I'm correct he'll have to leave it in his checked baggage as I'm sure the tube would not be allowable in his carry-on bag, but yes it should go through customs without an issue.

The customs will allow it since it is legal, can't you just tell?

Jiro hasn't YET to taste it though

We get them here in T.O - I go to lots of diverse communities and believe me, Durian stinks but tastes good!

That's how I feel about Vegemite. Not the rosiest smell in the world, but it does have an interesting taste.

I'm trying to convince him to at least try it. You don't know until you try.

I know but i said "Jiro hasn't YET to taste it though "

I said You have NOT tasted it yet

Good on you Dixie for trying it! Going to introduce Maddie to Vegemite next, eh? :)

I offered it to her last night when I made the video but she turned it down. I may sneak small bit in one of her sandwiches sometime and see if she'll ask for the "special sauce" again, lol.

Looks like a cheap Vegemite promotional poster, lol.

so? sometimes you have to sneak things in just to get your kid to try it, otherwise they'll miss out on an opportunity to do so. (I doubt this jar of Vegemite will last very long by the time everyone tries it at Christmas dinner, lol)

LOL I had to chuckle when I watched Dixie's video. It was very brave of you having to eat vegemite on toast.

You can try sausage with vegemite, ie chop the sausage, use a fork to pick up the sausage as for vegemite, put a little spread of vegemite on your plate, rub the sausage on top of vegemite and eat it.

I don't eat vegemite, but I used to eat vegemite when I was a kid. Now days I rather marmite. :)

What type of sausage are we talking about here? Breakfast sausage, summer sausage, hard sausage???

You all will need to try brunost!

Ohhh this is a heavenly specimen! Liza, an AD'er, living in Norway at the time, sent brunost over to me and I was on Cloud 9!!

I am severely lactose-intolerant so brunost is wonderful for those who cannot have cow's milk as it is goat's milk.

Brunost is wonderful with pancakes, waffles, toast and crackers.

I do bring my brunost to a waffle house for their homemade thick waffles and Grade C (amber) maple syrup plus the brunost... heavenly!!!

You are right. Better put some of them into his checked baggage. Last several years ago my sister was very angry that airline security agent not allow 24 cans of her favorite Cincinnati chili in her carry-on bag. they should throw all to them in trash. But she had donated all of them to some poor people.

Jiro, You are not afraid to eat Vegemite! I don't like peanut butter and jelly sandwich but I may try to eat sample of Vegemite.
