Wasn't sure which thread to put this in, so I started a new one.

I have my desktop computer which has Windows Vista (not by choice) and is hooked up to the modem with AT&T high speed internet. The computer is an Acer.

I also have an Acer Netbook with Wireless capabilities. I do not have wireless accessible here at home.

I had been told to check into a router to connect my netwook to the high speed connection by wireless technology. Money is very tight, but I want something decent.

I found something at Office Depot online.

D-Link® DIR-615 Wireless-N Router

Does this sound like what I need? It's on sale until 12/12 for $39.99.

This is all so I can use my netbook for my P3 until I get a webcam for my desktop.

What you have to make sure of is the wireless network card in your netbook and computer (if you want that wireless) are compatible with the techonology of the wireless router. 802.11 A/B/N/G etc. In other words if your netbook has a wireless B nic and your router is wireless N and not backward compatible, then it will not work. I did some research on the router you mentioned above and found that is is compatible with 802.11 b/g/n so if the nic in your netbook is either 802.11 b, g, or n then it should be fine.

How do I find the info needed? I'm so computer illiterate.

I opened network connections and where it says Wireless Network Connection - it says Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter and the Local Area Connection says - RealTek RTL8102E/RTL8103E Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet EIC

Atheros AR5007EG is Wireless G and yes, it will work great with DIR-615.

There you have it.. The router you selected should be compatible. Best of luck to you. BTW that is a great price too. I checked and they usually sell for about 65 bucks.

Better be DIR-615 B1 than DIR-615 C1. I had installed D-Link Dir-615 B1 for customers but they were out of storage from Purple. then now use C1. I dislike it and always download upgrade firmware into it. I think that Dir-655 is very good!

What's problem with C1?

Thanks everyone For your help. I will be picking it up tomorrow. I also got info on a webcam, but I'm gonna check around a little more.

If you get new router, I may help you to download upgrade firmware into it.

I am waiting for your answer.

It is version "C". The blasted thing kept dropping the wifi signal. Should upgrade the firmware. IT WAS ALREADY UP TO DATE. The kooky part about this is that my wired connection worked fine.

I dislike graphical autherication code on configuration utility. I already uggrade firmware to remove out it for all Purple clients before installing MVP or P3 download.

I think I may have one in stock....down here. I can just sent it over back to the U.S for free.
