Sometime mid to late next year, I am considering to upgrade my computer rig with these awesome stuff, and I would like to build it custom this time, while I can just hand over my dell to my other siblings as an replacement to the other old PC. (and yes, I am keeping my monitors! I love them)

Could you guys recommend me anything to start with? I want to have a rig that can combine with a server as well.

MOD: Could you please re-edit my title to 'Computer suggestions' which seems to be confusing with just the 'suggestions'
Thank you kindly.

I am not sure if they would be keen to send out items to Australia :aw:

You are from Australia then we do not know how to help you. We do not know much best computer dealer/store in Australia

I am not sure how much Australia dollar = USA Dollar?

You need give us more detail what you love to use computer.... like that just use internet or addict game online or graphic design or porn online or Apple Mac or Windows or what ever? Also, how much your budget but we do not familiar with computer store at Australia

All I need to know which hardware is good, doesn't matter about the store and prices in Australia.

I am not a PC gamer, but I use the computer all the time, for programming and server purposes. I want a computer that runs fast, where it doesn't even crash and whatnot.

I have a stable computer which runs fine right now, but I want to build a custom computer in later time.... that's why I am not planning to spend anything computer related when I am in the U.S

But, even if people tell you what to buy today, it will be primitive by the time you build your pc next year?

If you will enter to Portland Orgeon and may buy some electronic items, this state don't require sales tax for customers

I still do not know how much volts in Australia? What type of plug - wall outlet?

Also, we have no idea how much you will pay tax for import from outside of Australia.
Are you prefer go with Apple or PC Windows? Stick to AMD CPU or Intel CPU?

Long time, I used to have Intel CPU since 1977. Today, they start sell new Intel's CPU i5 and i7. Intel i5 is less expensive than i7. I noticed that motherboard for i7 is little expensive.

Right now, they sell Intel duo 2 core for less expensive.

I did try to see compare netbook with Atom vs regular laptop with Duo Core. I want to watch ESPN360's live america football game. I noticed that Netbook does not make smooth video. I would NOT say bad thing about netbook - just great for light weight and carry at anywhere. Netbook is great for Video Phone. I rather to have Gateway's netbook with AMD over Netbook with Atom.

Atom vs i7 (still not much different Duo 2 Core)

Your post is interesting --

My volts is 240 but all I need is names of hardwares that would be highly recommeneded for me, and I can find these hardwares in australia... down here in Canberra there is computer fair once a month.

Most time, I used to buy motherboard's brand name is ASUS. Some other companies made better to competition with other manufactures like Abit, ASUS, Intel, MSI, ECS etc. Only two times, I got defect motherboard from ASUS. Nobody is perfect job.

Some manufacturers are big improving or get worst.

We should not push you to buy brand name "ABC" or "XYZ". You need your homework to research to pick best one for your limited budget.

Simple to look at review from user's opinion at newegg, compusa. You will see how many people gave how much rate on brand's model and how much popular on motherboard and all other parts.

Computer fair/show in your area, you will see most popular motherboard like ASUS, ABIT, Gigibye, Intel, other brand. Let your own judgement to pick best price for your budget.

Wow, Impossbile- single video card & Core i7 itself isnt running High Frame rate (FPS) 352.-- something like that.. But i believe the fast FPS running by the triple high-ended video cards or double video card with Core i7. ;)

I am wondering if you had built your own rig before? If not, you should open your dell PC case to see what it look like and get an idea. I advice you, go store to see what the PC hardware they have in stock and price as wise budget and afforable. But I am not sure what kind of investment you looking for economic rig, or a mid-range rig, or High ended rig? ;)

I dont see your post of what the band of AMD or Intel you really loyal to? its most important to you. But you mentioned that want your rig run with a server as well. I highly suggest you, its intel. Plus I have seen the most software developer/or software engineer's their pc running intel and can keep up with a server.. like darkage's suggest Duo 2 Core.

You said you have 240 watt. it wont able to keep up with a mid range and high ended video card. Nevertheless, it depend on model and series of videocard's require 350watt and up..
